"Internet was launched in 1998"? That's odd, I worked for an ISP in 1995... and it was around a long time before that!

I was in Church Sunday (I know, suprising) and they mentioned
in a powerpoint that the Internet was launched in 1998.
Has it really only been 10 years? seems like I was surfing
for babes before that:)

The internet existed in a different form before then. It was mainly a network of universities and several government agencies. If memory serves me correct Arpanet switched over to using TCP/IP protocols somewhere in the 1970's. I only remember navigating around the ARPANET network in the mid 80's using Telnet commands. Browsers started to appear in the beginning of the 1990s and the web was invented by a British scientist not Al Gore in 1989.

Well, Compuserve back then would have been completely separate from the actual Internet... it only got a limited connection to the net (email) starting in 1989.

LOTS of busy signals back then. When AOL went to unlimited plans I moved there. Again LOTS of busy signals there. I just got cable broadband 3.5 years ago. It seems like I have had it forever.

Yes, tonight is definitely a good night to be a hockey fan.

Last score I saw was 2-0 Penguins, thought it was already over until I saw this thread. Woo!

"Internet was launched in 1998"?
Early 80's, we played on text BBS's and later they were linked by gateways -Z80, C64 and later IBM PC with a 20 meg HD :)
