Yes, great advice.  I've got a Fluke test set with TDR but in this case it didn't work.  The gophers didn't bite through the conductors, they only ate through the insulation and over time the brown pair corroded, but hadn't really opened or shorted.

The TDR was giving readings all over the map which is what led to the extensive discovery work.  The client wanted to rodent proof all the boxes to try and keep it from happening again so all the boxes needed to be dug out anyway.

F'ing gophers, did you go all Caddyshack on them? I bet your glad it's fixed! I've ran into that problem before and wondered if you could introduce a high current load, <1 amp 24VDC for awhile and see if it is enough to break the fault and make it easier to find.

Val is doing well. Her "flipper feet" are gone. She wore splints for a couple of weeks. The only other treatment was good food and exercise and her rubber paws are strong like they should be.

How is Shelby doing? Nelle is supposed to stay on lock down for 3 more weeks and then we can let her go back to her normal life. I don't know who is happier about that. Her or us.

She can jump super high now. This kid can open most doors, gates and even her crate door. The only reason we can keep her contained is that the word "cookie" makes her stop whatever shes doing. She comes running and sits right down waiting for a treat. Last week she hopped the baby gate and ran out the front door when the UPS guy came. She was half way down the driveway heading to the street when i yelled COOKIE and she slammed on the brakes and ran right back. I might have to keep her on a leash in the house :).

Nice....she looks good.
Shelby is ok. She runs fine and walks ok, shes a little fat so that affects her when she stands up or sits down, but other than that shes ok....2 different vets said the surgery was 100%.

Last night I was reworking the programming on a C4 system with panelized lighting and about a dozen lighting keypads. I let our sales/design guy "help" by connecting to the main controller at the same time to set LED colors on the keypads. Turns out, C4 lighting modules don't like it when two computers are connected to the Director at once. Not at all. Tech support got me back up & running, and the customer left me a bottle of Jameson 12 Year as a tip!

I am now a proud owner of a 4K monitor.
Now I need to piece together another PC ASAP, so I can actually use the 4K resolution

I found this thread on page 6 or 8 !
What? no one has done anything in the last 9 days? :-)

As for me, I jsut signed a $70K contract to have solar panels installed at my house. It will provide 72-77% of my average energy usage.
Who's going to chip in and help me pay for this bitch?

if your monthly bill was $500 and you got 100% from solar it would take 12 years to recoup!!! am i missing something?

Plenty of rebates and grid feeding credits to help you along.

Bumped your resale value too.

Congrats. This year is landscaping for me. Gonna cost but after this

i dont know about all that. seems like a super low yield long term investment. surely you didnt fork over 70k, so there are finance charges. if he is getting 70% yield, how do you ever feed the grid? the tax credits would have to be incredible for this to even attempt to make sense. as far as resale, are there any definitive results on that? i would seriously question that in my neck of the woods.

what is the lifespan of solar panels?

Mike, I never thought about using SMC as the cavity for patch panels; brilliant.

I ran the numbers, and only came up with three scenarios where this doesn't add up.

1. Your credit sucks and you can't finance it.
The 40%fed, and 10% is an interest free loan for up to 18months to carry me until June/July of 2015, to give enough time to get tax refund checks.
    Rest is going on HELOC

2. You think you'll move in less than 5-6 years.
While total ROI is about 8 years, the increased value of the property means that after about 5-6 years you're in the clear.

3. You don't have the space or clear shot of the southern'ish sky (buildings/trees/etc.) to put panels on the house or have it pole mounted. Or, your HOA, local zoning, historical regulations won't allow it.

The below screen capture is from my actual contract.
Panels and production guaranteed for 25 years.
Bottom number makes some assumptions for power rates increasing at a reduced/conservative, 50% rate of actual historical price increases over last 10 or 20 years.

Mac, I don't know that I have a lens large enough to capture the whole screen :-)

Brilliant indeed, but where's the network switch going to live and what will it look like once all the patch cables are in place?  I'm sure it's going to be a huge improvement over what you started with!
