Congrats Paul, hope you your wife and little Jake are doing well. A welcome distraction from your high quality work...but hopefully not too much that you stop inspiring us here. :)

Congrats again on your new son :) I expect since its that time of year everyone is slammed and on top of that they have to fit in christmas shopping and dealing with the inlaws :)

that is going to be a gorgeous room & House! What type of speakers are they? or are those the lights? Edit: saw that you are using LEON Axis! when you get them installed please post a pic! are you going to have them match the stain, or are you using a black grill?

Yup, Leon Axis.  The color hasn't been finalized yet.  The designer brought out a few different light trim setups that were cast metal and sprayed with different colors (the mock up just has the standard white plastic trim).  The color they are leaning towards is kind of a gold that looks good with the natural stain that's going on the mohagany.  The speakers will be painted to match what ever color is chosen for the light trim.

It's going to be a nice house.  Client has lived on the property for over 15 years and tore down the original house to build new.  It's a large property right on the beach and at one time was an indian settlement.  The planning, permitting & foundation work was brutal because the indian tribe & archaeologist were involved and on-site any time dirt was moved.

The house isn't that large (5300 sq ft) but all the finishes are going to be top notch with lots of craftmenship.

Edit:  Here's the view from the house

How large is that room, how many speakers are going in?

That room is 24' x 32' and is the largest room in the house.  Only four ceiling speakers and no subwoofer.

I think the ceiling peaks at around 16'.  Lots of steel in this house, it's been one of the more challenging pre-wires I've done.

Thanks to everyone that's asked about Jake.  He is healthy, but was born 5 weeks early so he's a little tiny guy (only 5lbs).  My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 7-1/2 months pregnant so the doctors delivered the baby early so she can start treatment.

Her first chemo starts in about a week so we're scrambling to line up some help.  My wife is a stong & positive person so I know we'll get through it, but timing couldn't be worse with the new baby.  Chemo & radiation treatments will last 5-6 months so it's going to be a busy first half of the year!

I went and goofed around with my boys today and shot off rockets.  I think I was actually more excited than they were.  This particular one, has specs of 1200 ft.  We had a slight breeze, less than 5mph so I figured we'd be safe from it drifting too far after the chute opened.  I was wrong.  The nearest we could tell, this thing landed about 5 city block past the school in the background.

IT WAS AWESOOOOMMME!

This was my youngest boy's (8 years old) first rocket that he assembled completely by himself.  He's still running around smiling.

That's my oldest son holding the camera and talking.

Shoot, that reminds me. I have a rocket kit out in the garage waiting to get built. Thanks for the reminder.

Didn't see the post from Paul about the baby.  Congrats and take care.  Don't worry those little fellas are tougher than they look.  He'll be running you ragged in no time flat.

Wow Paul. Congrats, and good luck with the wife. Be a rock for her, and speak up to the docs when she won't. Be there when you can.

I haven't posted in here in a very long while; but spent a fair amount of time today playing with some CAD software (Punch Professional); came up with the current mock up for a client after a fair amount of trial and error. I think they are going to be very excited...and I'm happy to have found a new hobby that adds to my skill set.

Open to know what you think; or any experience/tips/tricks "you've" come up with, with the software. Still trying to figure out a simple way to do 2 tone walls, adding chair rail; tray/cove ceiling and more accent lighting options (without getting into photoshop - future hobby)

Congrats Paul, it can't be an easy load to juggle with the baby and everything your wife is going through.

Do you guys have family help in the area?

That's good advice.  I've been able to go to all the doctors appointements and it has been really helpful to have us both there.  We seem to come up with different questions and are bombarded with so much information that we each remember different things and compare notes that night.  I thought having the baby was a lot of doctors appointments, but this cancer thing is in another league.

My wife's father is in town but he's in his 80's and can't really be much direct help.  We started by already hiring a housekeeper and landscaper and have been interviewing babysitters, nannies & nurses.  Our intent is to try and have 24hr care lined up for Diane and the baby for the 6 days around each of her chemo cycles when she's feeling her worst.

We do have some good friends that have been helping out and several of my clients have also been amazing.  A friend setup a schedule for people to bring us food.  We've already had 41 people sign up to bring us meals!

My clients are what's really blown me away.  Two clients are on the board of the local cancer center and local hospital and they paved the way with just a few phone calls to get my wife next day appointments with the best doctors.  A celebrity client that I don't know that well yet picked up the phone and got us a 3rd opinion with a Beverly Hills Oncologyst.

A client that manufactures adjustable beds delivered thier top of the line bed and matress for free, and another client has been sending her assistant to help with the baby and organizing the schedule, insurance and other details.

My wife and I are the type that usually give more that we take so it's been overwhelming to have so much support even without asking for it.  It's times like this I feel fortunate to be in this line of work where we get to meet influential people.  The help from clients has been unexpected and very remarkable.

We are half way through a complete remodel of a room we are turning into a Home theater. We are doing the entire remodel outside of carpet, cabinets, and counter top. We have finished the risers, air duck system, electrical, today we are patching all the sheet rock and preparing to paint. This is not something we will be doing in the future but when work is slow, I told the owner I could do it all. Our tech's have learned a lot in this process, carpentry, dry wall repair, electrical. It has been a huge training for our guys. I have taken pictures and will post them when we get finished. Of all the theaters we have done, this one will probably be my favorite.

Paul,

That is what you get for all that giving, people give back! This gives you more time and energy to spend on healing. PMA is the biggest healer available.

Just went through this with a friend and her focus and attitude got her through.

You and I spoke once very briefly a couple years ago, I know you don't remember.

Sounds like you have most bases covered, but if you or the wife need a sounding board you can call me or I could put your wife in touch with a survivor to help with coping.

PM me if I can help.

Mike
