|2) ...to combine both channels into mono for about a dozen zones that had been previously wired as mono,
Ernie probably can explain this much more detailed than I, but Mono summing isn't quite this easy. There will be an impedance mis-match without using resistors to change the input impedance of two signals feeding into one input. This will resort in distortion.
Hmmm....I didn't design this system. I'm going to search for more info on this. Thanks for the tip!
Had to take yesterday & today off so work would be spread evenly amongst my fellow techs, but I got a positive phone call from the boss yesterday morning. He had been out to walk through & demo a system we had finished tweaking on Monday. It was an old Crestron system that had been added onto & band-aided several times over the past dozen years or so and it was time for an overhaul. We installed C4 for control, replaced a Lexicon pre/pro & amp with a DTR 70.3, upgraded to Blu-ray & HDMI, & did lighting in 3 rooms.
Integration of the security system & HVAC was a huge deal to the customer. We installed 3 t-stats, one of which needed a remote temp sensor. We used an Aprilaire sensor supplied by C4. Not much to it, but it was something we hadn't done before. Also the client wanted an accurate local outdoor temp reading. We used another Aprilaire sensor, this one an exterior version, and wired it into a Card Access wireless contact sensor that we installed in the crawlspace. Card Access has a temp display driver on their website which allows temp readings from these sensors to show up on Navigator. We were able to import two Card Access WCS drivers, so one of them displays the local temp in the crawlspace, and the other displays the remote sensor's reading of the outside temp. Again, not much to it, but something we hadn't done before.
Anyway, the boss called me yesterday to let me know that both he and the clients were really impressed with the finished product. It's nice to get a compliment every once in a while.

Ok, how about this one?
That's just a little too provocative for this site! I can't believe you'd post that smut on here where real CI professional's come for serious discussion.
Shocking! Totally shocking!
Bill's Electric & Home Theater & Plumbing & Automation & Small Engine Repair, and Animal Removal Services......did I mention we do remotes also?
Today I finished off a pre-wired theater room that we didnt wire. Previous homeowner must have had it prewired and never had anything installed.
Triad IW Bronze LCR (x3) for the L, C, R. Triad IW Mini 4 LCR (x4) for the sides and rears. TruAudio C-Sub10 (x2) subs. Epson Pro Cinema 9700UB proj. Screen Innovation 110" screen. Yamaha RXA-1010 rcvr. Yamaha BD-S671 Bluray. Panamax M5100-PM Power Conditioner. URC MX-980 w/MRF350 for control. Snap AV B-200-1 Cat HDIR Balun for HDMI to Proj. XBox 360.
Expect for only running (1) coax to the theater from dist, (4) coax and (1) cat5 to the proj. and some romex running through where the center channel was framed out under the screen, install went pretty smooth. Would like to treat the room, but don't think that's going to happen..... Otherwise sounds really good.
Meet with a client about a whole house low voltage wiring job. He has a competitor's bid that he's comparing me to. Cat5e run at $75/run, check. Cat6 run at $89/run, check. D/A 16/4 at $89/run... what? That can't be right. Had him confirm it, yeap; the other dealer is running Cat5e(for keypad CTRL) to that location at $75 per run, and running 16/4 to same place for 90 bucks.
Can anyone tell me how you can price speaker wire with is at least twice to three times as expensive as cat6 for almost the same price?
Needless to say, I was over $1000 more on the 14 zones of DA.
