It looks like there are 2 sets of surround speakers, in addition to rear surrounds? How are you dealing with the timing and amplification for that?

looks like 7.1 to me

Yes, just a simple 7.1 setup running through the AVR.  All speakers are in-wall... are you maybe seeing the HVAC vents in the ceiling.

My trusty Dell Latitude D610 died yesterday at a job with a remote control almost programmed.  It's at least 6 years old and I've been hanging onto it because it's been 100% reliable and still has a serial port.

This was a simple family room surround sound system, but sucked to have it all in place and not be able to finish the programming so they could use it.

I have spares for the laptop (imaged drive, memory, extra batteries, extra charger, etc.), but seems to be something with the motherboard.  The laptop just quits responding (freezes whatever it's doing) and I've found that if I flex the case just right, it comes back to life.

Took it all apart last night hoping to find a loose connection, but no luck.  Have another single room job with URC today and worried that I won't be able to program the remote.  I'm going to try and twist the case and then wrap some duct tape around it to see if I can make it work long enough to program the remote.

Ordered a new Latitude last night, but it won't be here until Tuesday so I've got a few days next week still without a laptop unless I can keep this one limping along.

The failed laptop is having a bigger impact than I expected on completing work... I may have to think about keeping an inexpensive spare laptop for the future.

Why are the speakers so high up on the walls?

I'm not really sure.  I wasn't the original installer for this theater, but have now replaced or re-worked everything except for the surround speakers... I think they are the only thing I haven't touched.

I finished up a little one day install Friday just in time to get cleaned up, changed into a suit and made it to another client's holiday party (had to change at the jobsite).

The holiday party was on a 85ft boat out of the local harbor.  I've seen the boat here for years and even kayaked under it, but never been on board.

Equipment racks on the boat were slightly visible behind smoked glass so couldn't really see the gear but noticed Crestron control.

That's cool that you're working at the castle.  I was there for the first time last year and took a tour.

Are you working on the castle grounds or at the visitor center?

Not really! We have to work around those tours and spend some pretty late nights there. Gets a tad freaky at times.

Both.
The funny part is I have never taken a tour. There are so many parts of that place I have still never seen.
