The MC3 worked out well with a few exceptions. The Autonomic module had to be modified but all the changes have been documented by Autonomic and they were able to walk us through it. Also the POS xPanel requires password logic which apparently as of right now the firmware does not support but is being addressed as we speak. My last gripe is that it is NOT RACKMOUNT! I really can't wrap my head around that one. I know eventually rackmount versions will arrive but why wouldn't they all be?? Otherwise I am happy with it.

Yesterday I had to customize 2 Chief mounting plates because the TVs were changed and no one thought to check if the original mounts would work.

Duct Tape,

Very nice work! I do boat electronics, mostly Nav gear etc. We do audio/video also but not as much as you guys. (St. Petersburg, FL area here). Nice use of the limited space you where alotted and probally had to fight to get what you did. I like the attention to detail, edges of the holes routered on the Starboard etc. So often I see the electronics/audio gear just thrown in. I went and worked on boat Saturday that was getting ready to go to Panama. The Nav instruments stopped talking. Back in the deep dark corner I found that the wires where never soldered just twisted and tapped. Course they came undone. 3 hrs of searching, 5 minutes with solder and heatshrink. I laughed at your stuck pic the other day, cant remember how many times I've wedged myself into a hole and had trouble getting back out.

Wow. that's pretty crammed alright. Nice cable management. The last time I worked on a boat was tough. It took about 4 times as long to do as a house just to the logistics of about ten people of different trades working in limited space and the lack of space etc. -- It IS good work though when you can get it!

That is a custom plate that we made that holds reset buttons for the wireless router (WIFI), the cellular modem (CELL), and the onboard PC (PC).   They are backlit when the units are turned on.  The PC can also be turned on remotely from the Salon MX6000 or the Master Stateroom MX5000.

The plate also holds a USB jack for the PC, a 110vac outlet, and an RJ45 connector that is plugged into the network switch.

Thanks Shakey,

It is amazing what passes for professional work sometimes.  Marine Electronic technicians need to understand that when working on boats, you could be responsible for the death of an entire crew if one of your crappy installations causes a fire at sea.  Some guys just don't seem to grasp this concept.

This was our first boat working with a custom boat builder.  Usually we get to work on the boats being built right at our facility.  This boat I had to travel an hour and fourty five minutes each way to work on it.  I did this for about 2 months straight to complete the job.  A few times I ended up staying in a hotel for a couple night during the prewire.   I'm pretty sick of traveling at this point. :)

I would love to be involved in boat work but it scares the h-e-double-hockey-sticks out of me. I have yet to be involved in sinking a house.

Yeah. The long screw bit through the downstairs ceiling takes on new meaning when you are over water!

actually I did use HDMI.

The output of the AV receiver in the salon uses an Audio Authority HDMI over single coax unit. It works great.

The output of the AV receiver for the master stateroom uses a 10 meter tributaries series 7 hdmi cable. It worked when I first ran it and connected it straight to the oppo bluray player on the other end just to test. But after I had the rack finished, and I went to test, I had speckles in the video signal. I bought an Ethereal SR1 to try to fix it. But while pulling the TV out of the wall to install the SR1, I noticed that someone had ran a screw through my hdmi cable, thus causing my issues. I was able to cut off the jacket and repair the cable and everything works fine. I couldn't believe that my repair worked.

So I guess I don't hate HDMI that much...at least not on this boat.
