Yesterday, I bought my self a new watch. The eZ430 from Texas Instruments is a stupidly fun little MCU with a 915MHz radio embedded. Spent all of an hour integrating the thing into my home automation rig. I can now toggle a couple of lights or open my garage door with my watch! Nerdy? Yes. Impractical? Of course. Fun as all get out? You bet your a$$.

This things looks pretty interesting. How are you integrating this? I see they have a 433Mhz model as well.

Right now, it's a stupidly easy "Hello World" kind of a deal. I just used the preprogrammed Power Point mode, adjusted the .ini file to suit my needs and then just use the USB rcvr. to "capture" the associated key strokes. My goal is to (when I have time, lot's of side work at the moment) instead use the accelerometer to adjust lighting dimmers in real time. Now that will be super cool! In theory, it should be relatively easy. The watch also ships with an hardware emulator so you can rewrite the software as you wish and, I'm not sure on this but, I think you can rewrite the boot loader wirelessly. It's not an ugly watch (subjective) and there's some real nerd street cred to be had.

What I can suggest is my technique which I'm sure Sb also does. Take 2 pictures using tripod in the same spot, one with the room as dark as possible and then one with the adequate lighting and superimpose the 'screen shot' onto the lighten image

Example:

Always wondered how that was done! Thanks!

Is that pic on the left wall an absorber? If yes, might want it a little taller next time, for the seated folks.

I really like your HDR photos. I've recently bought a Cannon 7d and a 10-22mm wide angle lens to start trying to document our installations. Your setup advice has been tremendously helpful. I'm using Photomatrix and the pictures are looking pretty good. The one question I have is where are you getting the simulated movie/sports images you are adding in PS?

Most of the images are pulled from the web and then transformed in using layers in photoshop.  Some of the images are a blu-ray movie or even live TV paused and then shot with the right exposure and layered in.

I'm not certain of the legal/copyright ramifications of pulling a web image from a movie and sticking it on a TV or screen, but so far haven't received an letters telling me to stop.

The way I see it, taking a web image of Toy Story and using photoshop to place it on a TV isn't any different than taking a picture of the TV while the Toy Story movie is playing.

It seems common for movie studios to pay retailers to display images from their movies on the TVs in their ads (think Best Buy), so I'm not sure they would object to what I'm doing?

Let's see a few of your pictures!

started a new job a few weeks back, and had a few of the locals come and visit. They are very creepy.

It was raining here Friday and I found a bobcat sitting on the covered patio of a house I was working at around 4pm.

The house has been vacant for about a year, so I expect it's been one of his regular stops.

The new home owners have two small dogs, so I asked the wife if she wanted me to open the door to scare it away.

I clicked the lock on the door and to my suprise, instead of running away, it ran right to the door and was looking in the window.

We stood there motionless for about 10 seconds looking at it and then the wife said "oh my god!" and it looked up, made eye contact and then split.

I think it was so used to there not being any people around, that it figured the click from unlocking the door was prey and it came to investigate.

By far the closest I've ever been to one... usually you see them running away.

This is just my first attempt.  As you can see I took the liberty to "borrow" your screen shot image.  I will continue to learn but I don't think its a bad picture to start wtih.  It is much cheaper than hiring a photographer for each project.

Equipment Used:
Canon 7d
Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens
Apperature Priorty set at f11 with three bracketed exposures
HDR processing in Photomatrix

Pre-wired a basement which went really smooth, there were soffits everywhere, I practically threw my cable where I wanted it to go and then stapled it down.

But no easy day ends easy...

Spent a good long while on the phone with a client squabbling over estimates and tiny details trying to get into his budget... but NOTHING was good enough to get a yes...

I really have to stop doing that.

simply ask him what he doesn't need...take it out and meet his budget...and keep your profit.....if he wants it bad enough he'll put it back in

Yep. Thats how it works at McDonalds and as you can see they are doing pretty well for themselves. Why are we expected to adjust pricing?

Looks good. I'd like you to do a logo design for AVinstallers.org if you're interested?
