While there is no doubting the work and home are incredible (they are fantastic), I am calling BS (or should I say PS) on the daytime quality of the image. Not that you were trying to fool anyone here because we all know better but if you are achieving that image quality during the day than I am doing something wrong.

On that note, how do they watch during the day?

As others have already pointed out, these photos are all heavily processed and were taken for use in my portfolio.  In the process I'll usually take photos of other areas of the house and present these pictures as a gift to the client.

There will be manually operated black out curtains over all the windows in this room, they just hadn't been installed yet when I took the photos.  I'm scheduled back there in a couple weeks to redo the Audyssey Pro audio calibration once the curtains are up.

Daytime viewing in this room is still adequate (high contrast screen)... here are some photos taken during the day with my iPhone showing the real screen image (right from the phone).  These were posted back a few weeks ago.

Finished this one up too... kind of a rush job to complete before the holidays.

Really nice budget system.  Equipment was only around $9K and with labor totalled under $13K.

Not to drag this into the dirt because I really was just messing around but I have read the link you keep referring to and I dont see where it says anything about the images on the screen.

I wasn't sure myself so looked back and found where I mentioned it here...

It's a combination of things...

The photos are taken with multiple exposures on a tripod.  These pictures were taken with 5-7 shots all bracketed 1 f-stop apart (my camera can do this automatically).  I also use a hot light and occasionly a flash to eliminate some shadows.

Once you have the bracketed exposures, they are sent into HDR software (I use Photomatrix) which creates an image with wide dynamic range.

This is what makes an image closer to what your eye can actually see.  The best example of this is being able to see the view out the windows.

From here it goes to Photoshop for additional work to crop, correct verticals & color, sharpen, add TV images, etc.

In some cases, the HDR software doesn't do a good job with the windows and I pick the photo with the best exposure for the view out the window and then layer multiple images in photoshop.  This takes more time, but can provide a better result.

It's a fairly involved process and takes time.  At this job I spent almost 3 hours setting up and taking the photos and then another 3-4 hours processing the images.

Here's a picture of the setup:

Below is an example of what I would print to give to the client along with the digital files.  I print them at 16" x20".

I usually make extra copies for the architect, interior designer, builder, etc.

Everyone loves having good quality photos of their work and it creates a lot of good will which also results in strong referrals.

I'm lucky to have photography as a hobby.  It's time consuming (usually 3-4hrs on-site and then about twice that long to process), but if I didn't do it myself, I probably couldn't afford to hire a pro.

In between service calls so I finished another blog. Totally should photoshop my photos but I don't have that much time so I 'improved' one photo to see and the results didn't seem worth doing to all the photos. Maybe someday when I don't have my tools on I can take the time...

The new blog, minor shot at Best Buy, can't help it.

$12k is crazy but I think we could argue that. I hate the $65 dollars parts that start to add up.

Middle Atlantic parts can get out of hand, I just started bundling and adding in some extra misc. to cover all the tiny parts I was tired of trying to include in quotes.

Meanwhile, yet another project blog (I won't keep this pace going, should be busier next week)

The 'C' project and the dreaded 'I own a Bose surround sound, please connect it' scenario.

I was up until 11.30 last night working on a proposal, arose again at 5.00am to finish it, emailed to customer, and then realised at about 11.00am that I had forgotten to mention how much the prewire would cost or the labour to install all the equipment. I think I need some sleep........

I finished the aforementioned proposal and waited to sent it in the morning assuming I left something out.

Next morning I added all of the RCA connectors (over 100), lacer bars, and the AVR rackmount kit. ;)

Sent it
Realized I forgot the custom engraving on the touch panels........Dang it!

Have you guys thought about keeping a check list of common parts needed for jobs that you go over before sending out proposals?

Of course I have prepackaged "groups" for this sort of thing exactly but its still a living process and constantly needs attention.
