Sigh... A new client's (for dimmers/lighting control) words were... "I have a really great A/V company who did our pre-wire and trim" The panel & "rack": also look at that custom drain and sump pump piping!!!

Yeah.. and the great A/V company didnt bend him over and make him buy things he didnt need @ the rack or force him to waste money moving the wires/wallplates up behind the TV. Details might help. We were in there installing standard dimmers after the quote for a lighting control system (ra2) was... well... extravagant :) And the wallplates... those were fished in along with the wiring for the nuvo system. The extra 18" of wire may have pushed the budget a bit tight... More than anything, I continue to encounter structured panels that are never finished like a panel. He did tell me the cost of the initial pre-wire and project... Might not have been bent over, but not far from it given the end product.

also look at that custom drain and sump pump piping!!! Yeah... I asked him who built the house and he said "nobody he would ever recommend or deal with again" The drain clean outs in the middle of the backyard 10" out of the ground were also impressive but I didn't get to pictures of those.

More than anything, I continue to encounter structured panels that are never finished like a panel. The structured panel is just a big box to jam cables into with a cover to hide it all.. right? Well then why the heck do they take cables directly out of it to the gear making it impossible to hide their nightmares?

I'd have nightmares about it but I have decent sleeping pills. I wish I would have the pictures of a previous clean up where they managed to cram a cover on the panel while taking various cat5e cables, rg6 for the modem and phone lines out between the cover and panel...
Damn palm pre and its random factory reset. Hence the eve, pictures seem better though.

We can cut right through it! :) LOL. Sometimes the faux finish is something special but most of the time it looks better once the walls are cut open :).

Pronto still kickin'.... Boggles my mind how decade old tech is more reliable than the current stuff. Are they going backwards on purpose? Its like the 1990 Geo Metro hatchback that got 40 miles a gallon. For some reason it took them a decade, hybrid technology and $25k to get to 40 miles a gallon from a 2001 Prius.

been working on a networked media system the past week or so. I am networking the guys boat and 2 houses (they are all next to each other) so he can share bluray/dvd and music in all three locations. last night I wrapped up the networking. Also installed dedicated media PC's and URC MX5000s/MSC400 in the houses, and reprogrammed a nevo q50 on the boat.

John, That looks great! you know if you ever need help im a call away :) actually, i just want to see some of the boats you get to work on. LMAO....thats great! has anyone else noticed after we get finished with a job our customers end up completely redoing their rooms, which then leads to the house? DT - I have to install a small 4 channel DVR to the wall, and I've been racking my brain on how to mount it. How did you guys do this? Is this and MDF that's been trimmed and painted, or plastic of sorts? I was thinking of using 2 small shelf brackets and just placing DVR vertically on them, but I like your solution better, even though I would have to make the holding bracket smaller to allow for fans exhaust and such. Anyone used any OK looking metal brackets like I used to see PCs secured to desks in schools?
