After taking the course,it was a piece pretty straightforward.
Everything worked as planned and for the price, the KP4000 is a winner.
I think I need a couple in my house.

I have spent some time with my MX5000 so,that may have made a difference in the programing time.

It took 2 hours for the projector, scaler,DVD,VCR,input plates, lighting(off and on,nothing major)the MRX,and router set up. I did have to import the 232 codes for the scaler and learn IR commands for the Projector.

The training was very short.......the gals with their notepads didn't even write anything down!
They just said THANK YOU!!
Keep in mind that they had always had to switch everything manually before.

Can't wait to do one. (FRR),Yes we are network certified through URC. We have yet to tackle The kp-4000 though. Looking forward to it. Really wish it was waterproof/weatherproof.

I have my 1st KP-4000/MX-5000 job coming up in the beginning of Dec. The job will have 5 KP-4000s and 3 MX-5000. The MX-5000s will serve as a key pad for the DA system as well as remote for TVs.

Fixed a router issue for a stripper and then did some troubleshooting on a vehicle detector system at a McDonald's. It's not even 2PM! What else is in store for me today; I may just turn off my cell phone and play golf. All in all...keeping it real....real ghetto. How do I go from setting up a McIntosh MT turntable yesterday to this shit today?!?!?

Looks good. Nice gear.

Is that the Snap 42U Rack?

Looks open though throughout. Im trying to seal my racks lately to help with air flow. How are you managing heat?

Yes, SnapAV 42U Rack.  It's the first one I've used and I'll probably use them again.  It seems more sturdy than a Middle Atlantic Slim5, but not on par with an ERK.

What's nice compared to an ERK is that you can get sides for it so you can install and dress the rack fully open and then bolt the sides on when your done.

What SnapAV doesn't offer for this rack in front and rear doors so it won't work well for jobs where you need forced airflow through the rack for cooling.

This rack rolls back into a closet and the closet has a Middle Atlantic DuctCool with the intake vent in the ceiling.  Air is drawn in at the bottom of the closet from the back wall through a vent that opens into a storage room behind the closet.

Sounds like you have it handled. I was being gentle with my words to not call you out but obviously you handled your business. Nice work.

I'm not sure I understand... were you concerned that I hadn't accounted properly for cooling?

Cheers,
Paul

I picked up the 42U for my house. I don't have a duct cool but just put a quite bathroom vent fan in the closet that its in.

I'm trying their stacking system for the first time on Tuesday. The 21U with a 12U.
I like the new fixed shelves a lot more. we sometimes use a Snap rack but with all MA shelves and blanks.

I also just discoverd that APC H15BLK and picked one up that I'll be installing on Tuesday as well. Seems like a great piece for budget UPS and conditioning with AVR all in one.

Is that 3 Tivo's stacked about 2/3 up the rack? Do you have any issues with them getting too hot? I know they have active fans on the back, but always wondered if i could stack'em that tight.
do wino hue?

I use a Panasonic bath exhaust fan in my own rack closet at home and it's been running silently 24x7 for more than 5 years now.  I used them a few times for customer installs too without issue.

I also just discoverd that APC H15BLK and picked one up that I'll be installing on Tuesday as well. Seems like a great piece for budget UPS and conditioning with AVR all in one.

I use the H15 all the time.  This rack has an rack mount APC 1500 UPS at the very bottom for the network gear and Tivos, then the H15 around the middle for the AV gear and then there's a little APC G5 up near the top to give me some additional outlets.

I really like the APC G5 and use it for small non-rack mount installs.  It's great where you only have a AVR, cable/sat box and Blu-ray where everything is sitting on shelves.  You can just stack it with the equipment and plug eveything in the back.  Seems like when you install equipment on shelves, theres never enough room in the back for a power stip style surge protector.  The G5 is really inexpensive... not much more than a decent power strip surge.

Can I answer this question in a few weeks?  They are Tivo's, but first time I've stacked them in a rack before.  They don't have any venting on the top or bottom, so I hope it will work.  Cooling fans in the back seem to be exhausting the air well and after running for a full day, they didn't seem to hot (but the rack is still in the hall).

Sigh...

A new client's (for dimmers/lighting control) words were...
"I have a really great A/V company who did our pre-wire and trim"

The panel & "rack":

The only TV mounted in the house:

I then showed him some small pictures from my evo and finally got "we'll let you bid when we build out the basement home theater". Can't decide if that's good or bad.

Worked on a big distributed AV job, 16 zones of Audio, 15 video, 2 surround systems. Controlled with 2 kp4000, 4 mx5000, 2 mx6000.

2 way with apple tv, psx2. installing urc lighting, cameras, proliphix on the next phase. I've been there for 115 hours in the last three weeks, hopefully tomorrow will be pay day.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

Yeah.. and the great A/V company didnt bend him over and make him buy things he didnt need @ the rack or force him to waste money moving the wires/wallplates up behind the TV.

I was on a yacht that sailed between holland and denmark. There was a storm. The boat was rocking so bad that it was almost laying on its side each time. I spent the whole 2 days in bed. Never again.

this boat had a Seakeeper installed, which is a stabilizer to keep the boat from rocking.  the problem was, that this run was meant to test the Seakeeper, so they rolled the boat as much as they could, then engaged the Seakeeper.  This went on for about an hour.   The video was taken during my time trying to keep from getting sick.  I wish I had it in me to take a video of the rolling back and forth, but I was too busy trying to hold back the puke!

I was on the boat to setup the autopilot and radar, we didn't even get to tune the autopilot.  so it was basically just another "torture Duct Tape day"

i hate boats
