I tend to think of power strips as being indestructible. Guess I need to rethink all those $2.99 ones I have scattered around...

havent you ever been to a training and been shown why to use panamax stuff =).

Spent the morning with my sick 2 yr old daughter. She was watching cartoons, I was doing some paperwork. I went to check on her and she was gone, she decided to let herself out of the house and went for a walk to play in a neighbor's backyard.

Needless to say, the door chime on my alarm is now turned on. That scared the crap out of me.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

I am so glad she is OK and apparently feeling better.

I spent the day at the beach with my daughters first grade class. The school is walking distance from a park on Puget Sound so we went down for low tide. It was fun turning over rocks and seeing what lives under them. (We put all the rocks back though)

I spent the last 4 hours rewriting an old Application Builder file in System Builder and getting ready for the service call tomorrow. It took me a week to program this system the first time around and today i knocked it out in a couple of hours. Biggest help was having a 27" monitor for VTpro so that i could have every page visible at once and i had a laptop next to me with the appbuilder file open so i could copy macros and check IR/RS232 ports.

I've been married for 3.5 years and I've got a 15 year old step-daughter. When I met my wife I skipped right from "no kids" to "11 year old". She'll be driving in 6 months and we're looking at colleges right now. Sheesh. :)

I closed on my house, and then went to finish up what I didn't get finished yesterday. Just got started troubleshooting when my laptop gave me the BSOD. Rebooted to continue, and BSOD again. Needless to say I didn't finish. Oh well, there's always tomorrow...

I went out today to reprogram 3 local systems today. Fujitsu/Denon AVR/Denon DVD/ Sony VCR/DirecTV on 3 floors of a town house. I spent 4 hours last night with system builder rewriting the file for one floor. Today i spent 3 hours updating firmware/loading the new file and testing. 7 Hours total and 2 of those were just me going back and forth from application builder to system builder trying to update the files.

On site i was able to just save/as and change the RF ID for each ST-1700 since the systems are all the same. When i did this install about 7 or 8 years ago it took me 2 weeks to program it with Application Builder. I programmed each floor from scratch including the GUI. I remember using graph paper to record all the button positions for the first file so each of the ST-1700's would be identical. I remember writing out the macro steps and then manually programming for each file, took forever. This time i set them all up as global presets so editing them from floor to floor was a breeze.

Just goes to show you how a little experience goes a long way. I was able to do it 8 years ago but it took 2 weeks and now it takes a day. Made me think about the varying labor rates from one firm to another. You might be saving $30 an hour with company A but if company B can do the same work in half the time then your really not saving anything.

I traveled 60 miles to the lake!
Spent 9 hours fixing stuff on a brand new yacht!
You'd think if you spend a few mil that everything would work!!

I did earn a couple new friends in the process..........
Weather permitting,I'm headed back this weekend to try out their hydro chair and show them that an old man can still tear up the slalom course!!

Obviously not behind the yacht, they also have a Mastercraft ski boat.........
Junior wants me to teach him to do a 360/flip wake jump.......

I wonder if they know that you can do 360 spins with a v-drive? ;-)

I love this job and the people i meet!!!

Life is good!

How many times am I going to stick an emitter on the light sensor of a Pioneer plasma instead of the IR sensor, then spend 30+ minutes trying to figure out what's wrong with my programming??

Seriously... HOW MANY TIMES? I already did it twice and said "Never Again!!" both times. :)
