To get them through the weekend I jimmy rigged my own component balun. We took a generic component cable and cut it in half. Then took an ICC RJ45 jack and punched down the 6 wires of the component cable, did this on both ends, plugged in our Cat6 that we just ran, hooked it up and it worked great!
I didn't take any time to really check out the picture but it worked and will probably keep working until we can get this figured out. Or it will just stay that way because he will crap his pants when he finds out how much proper baluns cost. Points for getting in touch with your "inner hack" though!

Except he has an old Denon DVD 2500 Bluray player that is HDMI ONLY, so he has to get something that works if he wants to watch blurays.

Just got to my desk and a copy of Mid-Atlantic Builder is on my desk, and the Maryland Award of Excellence winners are inside.
I think it's pretty cool that I've worked in two of the winning houses in the past two days.

Swapped out the original Prodigy PLX2 remotes for the new PLX3 remotes on two systems and added the new AM/FM/XM tuner to one of the systems.
SB worked surprisingly well considering one of the systems had 8 rooms of music and 20 dimmers and wireless audio keypads. I thought I was going to have to rewrite the program, but was able to change the system processer and add the PLX3 SB, and it worked just fine.

Nice job Jim! Thanks! Except the award is for the builder and has nothing to do with us, but it's still pretty cool. Finally getting in front of the right people! :)

Finished a big job today for a document storage facility. (phase 1)
48 Cameras on 3 DVRs with off site video storage. Ceilings were 40' and getting the lift around was tough so it feels good to have finished a day early and collect a little beer money for the weekend. The best part was passing inspection on the first go round without a single change. 2 more buildings to come in the next month.

Got a call today from the people renting my house in Idaho that one of the burners on the range caught fire. burned the paper off the drywall, the paint off the stove and hood and the years of grease build up in the exhaust pipe started dripping out and doing all sorts of damage.
Luckily it was a guy there and not the wife and kids, b/c she probably would have grabbed the kids and ran, instead he was able to put it out, but still lots of damage. I'll try to post pics later.

Bummer! The best way to look at this is it could have been much worse. Sounds like it might be a pretty simple fix that shouldnt be overly expensive and gives you a reason to head north east for the weekend. Bring your own beer, I'm pretty sure we cleaned out Idaho two weeks ago. :)

We have friends that started remodeling and renting houses. At one house in Ohio the tenants moved their stuff in and put some boxes in the detached garage. A few hours later the garage burned down. Something inside a box caught on fire. Day One they burned down the garage. I can't even imagine.

Day One they burned down the garage. I can't even imagine. At least it was only the detached garage. Imagine if they had put those boxes in the house! PS - what was it - a meth lab or something?? :)

Had an APC power strip (that came with my old Gateway computer from 10-15 years ago) that now has a single shorted (?) receptacle. Bedroom breaker kept tripping last night and I couldn't figure it out. I thought I had nailed it down to a 20+ year old electric pencil sharpener, but it turns out that if you plug anything into one specific outlet it pops the breaker.
I tend to think of power strips as being indestructible. Guess I need to rethink all those $2.99 ones I have scattered around...
