I love plaster. We put a masonry blade on the skill saw, get behind a curtain of painters plastic so dust dosent get eveywhere and go to town. Its always nice to have the cojones to get things done. AWESOME!

I thought I took a pic of the finished project, but I can't find it. Worked it pretty well for no attic or crawl (finished basement). We obviously had a couple small patches, but we made sure they are behind the TV. We use the Oscillating saw, we have the Bosch battery powered, but will be getting a corded model as well. We use the masonry bit to get through the plaster, then the wood to cut out the laths, very clean cuts, no chipping and very little mess. [Link: boschtools.com]

I've never seen one of those in action but I bet its much less dust than a skill saw. I will tell you its about a blade per speaker with the skill saw.

Wow, you really need to pick up an Oscillating tool. They are one of the most used tools we own now and great problem solver. Plus, if you aren't sure whats behind the wall, this thing cuts very precisely and is easy to handle, so no worry of nicking or cutting a wire/pipe.

Effective... but also somewhat dusty... is the good 'ole roto zip. Use a tile bit making sure not to catch the lathe and then finish the lathe with a wood bit.

Just got home from 11 days at my inlaw's house. Cooked a steak, opened a bottle of wine, had dinner with my famly, wife and duaghter went to sleep. First time I've been alone in a week and a half, picked up my T2C, turned on my surround sound, damn its good to be home.

Here goes more money for a tool I absolutely have to have. you really should own one. I just used one on plaster the other day worked great. I prefer the harbor freight over the dremel actually. It is really great to notch out for speaker swing arms in those retro spaces where the studs aren't laid out exactly equal. Really it has a ton of uses just for a/v install. [Link: harborfreight.com]I do wish the blades locked into place with the harbor freight version. But it hasn't been a big deal. The greatest thing about it is you feel in complete control of the device with precision cutting. Something I wasn't always comfortable with on the rotozip/skill saw/sawzall. This is suppose to be the best alternative to the Fein oscillating tool and can use the same attachments. [Link: rockwelltools.com]

I spent today working on a new template. Creating/slicing/labeling/exporting from fireworks/ importing to Crestron VTPro-e. There is a lot of tedious work involved but its going twice as fast as it did with my first template. I have a pretty good system now and i am avoiding problems i encountered the first time around.
I hope to have all the graphics created this week and imported to VTPro-e by Sunday night. Then a week or two for building the different resolutions, another week for creating the webpage & downloads & screenshot gallery for it. So hopefully by the 2nd week of may it will be ready.

Here goes more money for a tool I absolutely have to have. I'm actually shocked you don't have one yet. We have the Bosch version. I like that it uses the full size blades that the heavy duty corded models do for more options. The only problem for us is that one of the batteries completely crapped out on us and we haven't found another one in stock yet. The batteries die pretty quick, but they also charge pretty quick, but just one isn't enough. We are going to pick up the cheap Harbor Freight corded model to see what we think.

I've got the Bosch tool too along with the little drive and impact gun that run on the same batteries. All these tools came with what Bosh calls "ProVantage" warranty. I had one battery fail and when I called, they signed me up (registered) for free over the phone and then 2nd day shipped a replacement battery. The customer support was some of the best I've received... give it a try if you think your tool/battery might qualify.
