You've just summed up many of my own DMV experiences.
DMV = Government wasteland and abuse of power. In California the price of tags is going up another 77% making my Mercedes just over $1300.00 a year for a fu*%ing license plate sticker. If they accepted cash I would pay them in pennies! Thus the reason for the no cash policy!

Which Mercedes do you have??? I loaned my (pride and joy) 89 300CE to my ex.... Last night she called and informed me it will not go into reverse!!! She "THINKS", she accidentally set it in reverse as she was rolling into the grocery parking lot. :>(

I'm drinking heavily in reaction.

I Don't think this is physically possible, not positive but most cars have a locking/blocking mechanism that restricts putting the car in reverse or park when going above a certain speed

This is an automatic... I don't think she could of either... but maybe...
I'm feeling nauseous... I spoke with mechanic today who said it might be cheaper to R & R (remove and replace) with a newer or rebuilt tranny vs, trearing it down and troubleshooting.

WOW. Might have to just sell the car as-is. I love that car!

Its good but not that good!
I built a 69 Camaro with many years of blood sweat and tears and thats what led to this car in a round about way. I was ready to let go and planning to see what she'd do on the block at Barrett Jackson when I was offered a straight across trade for for a 2 year old 911 Carrera 4s with 16'000 miles. That was my baby for a while until my mom decided they wanted to get my neice a nice car when she graduated law school and they were going to trade in the AMG because they never drove it. I traded them the Porsche my neice now drives for the Mercedes straight across.
Im currently working on a 69 Chevelle SS 396 thats in the beginning stages of breathing new life. I'm not sure if this one will ever make to show but shes the best excuse I can come up with to spend cold nights in the garage drinking beers with bloody knuckles and hanging with the guys. I think this is going to be my sons first car.

Please post pics of the Chevelle through the process. My first full on, numbers matching restoration was a 70 SS 396 that my stepdad and I did together (I did a few non original builds prior to it). I told him if the car ever went up for sale, I wanted first option. He sold it to the redneck across the street who didn't do such a hot job of taking care of it.

Today I'm signing over the title of my 68 Ford XL fastback to my uncle because I can't drag it around the country with me. It was my grandfather's car, and I bawled like a baby when I got the title out last night, but I haven't had the time or a good garage since my divorce, and the car has suffered from sitting. I hit a deer with it on the way to a cruise night a few years back, and it took forever to scrounge everything I needed to put the front end back together (you have no idea how hard it was to find a complete grill and hideaway headlight assembly for that beast).

Wow, great car stories... WhiteVan that amg is a nice ride! I'm impressed!

Update...My ex took the car to some quickie lube place and they drained the tranny & changed the filter... Problem is (was) they didn't run the car when they refilled the tranny!!!

Last night, I checked the fluid level and it was low... so I ran it for a bit and topped it off. F-in' reverse works now! WHEW! I was looking at a $2,300 repair bill! Woo Hoo 8>)

I know exactly how you feel. I just put my 240 up for sale, cause I cant drag it around either. I almost cried myself when I was getting out the title. Making sure everything was in place for the sale. It's been sitting long enough, it developed flat spots on the tires, that are about 250 each to replace. Anyhow, I know how you feel. It's like parting with your favorite dog.

Very nice, I had a Nova back in High School that I got in an accident with, my dad had the same car but with engine problems, so he gave it to me. We swapped the motors and tranny, I did some minor Edelbrock upgrades, but it was fun. Cut the muffler off for awhile, that was fun, stupid high school.

Anyway, I've been wanting to find an earlier 60's chevelle with a 327, I think in 68 or 69 the 327 was pumping out as much HP or more than the BB 396 with something like 11:1 compression.

I've also always wanted to get a VW Manx to cruise around when we go camping.
