LOL, I used to have to go out with my store delivery guy, and haul those gigantic Oak Cabineted Mitsubishi "Big Screens"...I think were broke all labor laws moving those around... Actually herniated a disc... Literally took 8 years to heal!

LOL, isn't that they way. I have respect for electronics that have long outlived their designed lifespan. Still have a Sony 13" CRT built in 1986 that's working fine in a bedroom (full IR remote, 125-channel cable tuner, supports discrete codes (!), on-screen display, stereo speakers, composite video in, analog audio out... all the bells and whistles!)

i still have a Sony MZ-R30 Portable Mini Disc Recorder, it's been with me since January 1998 when i bought it new for $400. made of aluminum, tons of buttons and a jog shuttle, more features than you can shake a stick at. it's got a couple big dents but i don't think it will ever die. it stayed with me through army field exercises, asian vacations, thunderstorms, dust storms, mexican adventures... some consumer electronics are so awesome i wish there was a museum dedicated to the best of them.

LOL, thanks, yeah those were nice sets but the weight issue-wow!

Once I went with a guy up to one of the San Juan islands to work on a place... The homeowner wasn't going to be there, and said the new TV is in the living room but needs to go into the Master...
We get there and it's sitting there in a crate! We could barely even slide it to the stairs... We finally went down to the local bar, and recruited a couple big dudes (a very small quaint little village)... we paid each of them $50 for helping us lug that mother up the stairs! They were shocked at our generosity, but we HAD to do it! LOL.
Just the sight of that TV gicves me the chills now!

yeah but have you ever delivered one, and tried to lift it into a "custom" tv cabinet, only to find out that the cabinet was built too small?

that was not a fun day.

I still have my MZ-1, though I haven't tried it out in a decade. I do, every once in a while use my MZ-R4ST (Japanese only version with docking station). I wish I still had my original discman, which wasn't much bigger than the CD, but the battery pack with shoulder harness was huge! I do still use my 36XBR800 in my basement workout area.

This morning i got up bright and early and headed down to the DMV. I got there 4 minutes after they opened and the place was packed. :) By packed i mean 10 people, I live out in the boonies now, When i lived in Chicago there would be hundreds of people in line at the DMV.

At the DMV they have an automated touchscreen device that asks you why your there and then spits out a ticket with a number on it. I did one for my drivers license and 1 for a title & tags on a van i just bought. I get called up for the title & tags first and the lady tells me they dont accept visa at all and i have to have a check or money order to pay for the tags so they can staple it to the form.

I dont have a checkbook. I have an online banking account thru Bank Of America. I dont get any paper bills for anything sent to my house because i pay everything online. So i decide i will wait and get my drivers license renewed then go out and get a money order.

I get called up for the drivers license and the lady tells me they cant accept cash or visa but they can take master card or a money order or check. Luckily i have a master card or i would have been getting 2 money orders.

What in the world is going on? Its 2009 and everyone should be accepting plastic and definately cash. This is right up there with the places that still force you to FAX stuff. I havent had a home phone or FAX machine in 5 years.

I know I don't miss the Pioneer Elite Rear projection Tvs. I delivered quite a number of the 64" battle tanks in their eggshell like black lacquer finish.
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

I installed one of these in this wall of cabinets the client had built many years ago. They had a clip on cover plate to make it look like a plasma. For some reason the cabinet maker thought it would be a good idea to build a 4 inch riser/base where the TV would go. So rather than easily rolling the TV in or out whenever you need to.. you had to lift it on this riser and slide it in. There was barely an inch clearance so it was a real PITA to get it on and off the riser.

At one point we lost it a little and the front dropped as we were tilting it out of the opening and the damn mirror fell inside. After a few menthols we opened up the TV and found one of the corners cracked off. We put the mirror back in place and fired up the TV and it looked fine so we put it back on the riser and i havent touched it since. Hopefully that thing never dies.

You've just summed up many of my own DMV experiences.
DMV = Government wasteland and abuse of power. In California the price of tags is going up another 77% making my Mercedes just over $1300.00 a year for a fu*%ing license plate sticker. If they accepted cash I would pay them in pennies! Thus the reason for the no cash policy!

Here is the thing though, You can write a check on anything as long as you have your banking info and they have to accept it. I'm giving this some thought.

I've been dealing with a dispute on my credit from an apartment that I lived in 9 years ago. The company needs me to fax them some info. They don't even have email!?! WTF?

Yesterday I was talking to them, while on the road, I needed his contract info and what to include in the fax, I asked him to just shoot me an email...oh, what, SOB!! Pullover. Waste my time. sighh

I don't even have a phone line in my home anymore, I only used it for faxing and really don't fax anymore.

Whitevan, they have to get the money to pay off all these damn IOU's somewhere. I told my wife to take her IOU from the state and pass back to them as payment toward our property tax.

Moved 42" Toshiba from this room to office (custom cabinet & PITA peerless articulating arm), took down little tiny sony satellite 5.1 in this room and cut in some Monitor Audio Silver in-walls and in-ceilings.  First time I heard them and they were pretty sweet - even paired up with the customer's little Marantz SR3001.  That cabinet has an old tube IR sensor (centered above the drawer handles)  As soon as the TV turns on, it's flooded with IR.  You can't even put your hand over it to stop it - it still gets through!

Oh, and in another room I had to use a drywall screw for a pilot bit.  :)

i sold and loved monitor audio when i was in retail, but i've never heard their in-walls. not surprised they sound sweet.
i have to agree on the peerless articulating mount. everything peerless makes is a PITA, IMO.
