Hello,

shortly, I had the chance to purchase a still completely new and sealed TSU9400 and now, I'd like to start configuring this remote to my needs.

I just installed PEP3 beta to my Win11 Pro laptop, which worked flawlessly.

Could you please give me some hints for my first steps with the PEP3 software?

- where can I see that my TSU9400 is correctly connected to my computer and to PEP3? In the USB hardware section of the info panel, it doesn't show up as a plugged in device. And in PEP3, there is also no information on the connected TSU9400. The software doesn't seem to recognize it automatically and starts up with a basic project for a TSU9600.

- before screwing up anything, I'd like to backup the existing original configuration and screens of my new TSU9400. But I can't find any button, allowing me to export the existing configuration from the remote to my PEP3 instance. How can I manage to create a backup of the original configuration?

- is the original configuration of the TSU9400 stored in its firmware? So, in case, anythig goes wron, will I be able to somehow initiate a factory reset and have my TSU9400 back iin its original status?

Thanks a lot for helping!

I don't think you can upload an existing configuration from Pronto to PEP - you can't in PEP2 to the best of my knowledge. But what's on it originally will be of little use to you anyway, at least until you have taught the software which codes you intend to use. Each time you amend your configuration file, you can save it in PEP under a different name, so you can easily go back if things go awry. I always back these up elsewhere too, as belt and braces approach.

I get the impression that most users have stuck with PEP2 - I suspect if you search the threads you'll find something.

And you have definitely come to the right place - the likes of Lyndel McGee are incredibly knowledgeable.

At the moment, I'm stuck with connecting the remote via USB.
Win11 simply doesn't seem to recognize it.
I fear it is a matter of the 64bit OS versus old 32bit drivers.
It's a bit astonishing to me that it doesn't work, as there are reports of other users who managed to get this working under Win11.

At the moment, I'm unfortunately not able to load any configuration to my remote.

1) You cannot upload an existing configuration from the remote. See the sticky threads.

2) The TSU9400 does not use custom drivers. It uses USB HID drivers.

3) I strongly recommend using PEP2 vs PEP3 as PEP3 was only ever released in BETA and may have some memory leaks. The only benefit to PEP3 was overlays (required for TSX9500 lack of hard keys) and being able to have multiple projects in the same file.

4) I have not had any issues with Windows 10 64 bit and PEP2 for downloads to the remote via USB. However, when you use PEP2 and bring up the 'Options' dialog, there is sometimes an exception that is reported which you should be able to safely ignore.

5) Some users have reported issues with Windows 11 not finding their custom 'Sound' files but I have not been able to reproduce that problem with Windows 10.

6) Remember, you are working with software that has not been update since late 2010 (Circa Win7 and XP). Windows has come a long way since the last release. I know others have been successful creating a Virtual Machine and running the software there.

Thanks for the information.
Yes, I am aware of the problem that the Pronto software is quite outdated.

Up to now, I tried different things:

- installation of PEP3 under Win11 -> the software worked, but I wasn't able to properly connect the device in order to download configurtions to the remote

- installation of PEP2 (2.4.18) under Win11 -> same problem

- tried both by at first selecting comptibility mode XP/SP3 for the setup file -> software didn't start at all and also no connection to the remote

- installed an Oracle VM into my Win11. In fact I already had one, which I always use for my Pronto RU980 software (ProntoEdit NG), which works well so far. I was able to install and start PEP2 in this VM. But also, I wasn't able to connect to the device. After plugging it into the USB port, I always hear a sound, but no such device appears in the windows notification area or in the device manager. From within PEP3 and PEP2, trying to download a configuration to the remote, I always receive the same error message.

PEP3 under Win11

PEP2 in Oracle VM

Honestly, I hoped that at least  using a VM could solve my issues with connecting the TSU9400.
Do you have some hints for me, why I am also not able to do so, when using PEP2 within the VM?

Several thoughts...

Are you running the software in Administrator Mode? Right click on the PEP icon and select Run as Administrator.

When you plug the remote into a USB port on your machine, does anything happen? I'd recommend downloading the latest firmware to the unit. There's something known as a complete firmware update which will remove the current configuration.

Try this link.

You will reset the remote then quickly press all 3 firm keys whilst the remote is connected via USB to the computer. The latest TSU9400 firmware (using the PEP3 compatible firmware version 3.3.3 should be OK).
