Well it has been a while. I have been waiting for Remote Central to be back and found it has arrived .
First about me: I am still running my 9800. I am a little older (86 this October). I had a small stroke that only affect it me with speech but not too major.
The Theater which has been improved over the recent years. The AV processor is an Anthem AVM-60 with 11 power amplifiers (a set of 7 and a set of 4) and speakers. All Speakers are in-wall or in the front cabinets (I also do woodworking/cabinetry). The video is a JVC laser NZ30 with a 120" length screen (133" diagonal).
The system runs several source systems, a TiVo, a Tablo, a Nvidia Shield, a Fire TV cube, a slide-show system I wrote, and a full Blu-ray set of movies on a NAS with a full librarian. The "TiVo" and "Tablo" are off-the-air based, all other sources are internet based, with the exception of the movie/concert library system which I wrote and uses a Dune HD player. The movies/concerts are all stored in .MKV files stored on a NAS with 32 TB.
The NAS is built by "Lime Technology" which has never lost a file in over 10 years of use. A hard Drive has failed but then the NAS runs a variant of raid 5 and can build a failed drive by itself. Just needs a failed drive replaced and the system will build the system while still on line using its due as a NAS.
If you have never seen the "Tablo" it is worth a mention. It is over-the-air based. My unit has two Tuners but up to 4 are available. The number of tuners controls how many programs can be recorded simultaneously. Basically it is a DVR, but converted the programs recorded to be received by any Smart-TV. I have a small antenna off the roof which has about a 12" diameter antenna to get about 50 stations but I only use the networks ABC, NBC, CBS. I live in the East Coast area of Florida (Merritt Island).
The Fire TV Cube and nVidia Shields were a problem with my "Single Remote" fetish in the Theater and the pronto 9800; The Fire TV Cube and nVidia Shield both are Android based. I have added an application (runs on the Fire TV Cube and the nVidia Shield) that allows those sources to be acceptable to Pronto device codes using TCP/IP. This allows the Pronto to deal them so I still have a single remote in the theater.
The house no longer has the original in-wall iPads that were in every major room for Home Automation control. They entire Home Automation is by voice. Every light, and several special devices are also voice based. My house uses devices for Home Automation by the Insteon company (Insteon.com). I use the Amazon Alexa system in a skill for the Insteon devices using a Hub by "Universal Devices". The hub is fully programmable to set up sophisticated automation sequences for the house.
As usual I will reply questions if any interested or needs assistance. I am a little slower unfortunately.
