Quick one - if I insert sounds into a button's actions, does the sound play in its entirety before moving on to the next action, or does it start the sound and then move on? I'm toying with the idea of putting some film sound effects/quotes in, but don't wish to delay matters.

Will it accept .wav files?

I think it just kicks off the audio. Try it with a longer audio file.

Per the original documentation, IIRC, 44.1KHz mono is preferred. However, I see some files in my sounds folder from other projects that are stereo. The PEP training materials on this site should cover this topic.

If you have a 44.1KHz wav file, you can always merge channels with Audacity (google if you don't know what it is).

It does just kick off the audio. I use the stock "INTRO MONO" sound in my configuration file quite a bit. The sound clip has a running time of 7-8 seconds or so. It's my first action list item when an extended button press is performed in certain scenarios. The moment the audio starts to play the next action list item is executed and so forth.

Is there any way of adding sounds to the system? I can see that it has six or so, but can't readily see how to add others - maybe it's not possible.

Look in the same folder where the PEP2 executable is installed and have a look at the corresponding 'config' file i.e. 'ProntoEdit Professional 2.0.exe.config'.

The 'SoundsFolder' location is where you want to put them. Please be aware that sounds are NOT stored inside the XCF file, only a named reference. So, you should treat this directory just like your configuration. Ensure it is backed up!

Found the file and am going to try importing a few bits and bobs - thanks again Lyndel.

Have added a wav file (though it originally seemed reluctant as I am not an administrator), but it doesn't appear in the drop-down box with the existing few sounds when I add a sound. Is there anything I am missing?

I have not tried that lately but I know it works on Windows 7. I do have sounds in my folder. The sample rate must be 44.1KHz and stereo or mono should work. Using a hex editor, compare your files to those provided by Philips.

Try changing adjusting the filename of one. To ensure you have correct format, copy "Error Mono.wav" to "Custom.wav" and see if PEP2 displays it in the drop-down. You must also exit and restart PEP2 once you drop a file in there IIRC.

When you figure out the final issue, please post back here. I don't have Windows 10 installed to check it.

Tried copy/rename of existing sound file - they don't appear. This is win11, btw. The new file I have added is the wrong sample rate, but the copied versions are not, so I doubt it's anything to do with that.

Ok. Run PEP2 as administrator and see if they appear. If that is the case, add everyone or users as having full access on the folder.
Or at a minimum read and directory permissions.

I seem to recall that on windows 7 I had to use a tool (Maybe Windows Install Kit???) that would grant elevation privileges to PEP2 but it has been so long that i don't remember exactly what I did.

The other thing I tried was to change locations in the .config file but the editor rewrites the file upon exit and all your changes are lost.

Is there a thread you can point me to that shows how to do that? Appreciate your patience!

Right click on the PEP2 executable and say 'Run as Administrator'.

For the folder permissions, right-click on the folder, select Properties, then click the 'Security' tab tab and add 'Users' or 'Everyone' with correct access.

Or google this:
how to add Everyone permission to folder in Windows 11

OK - all done and I can copy into that folder without prompts - but the drop-down box only shows the original sound files. Looks like we're at a dead end to me, unless you have any other ideas. Your help has been greatly appreciated.
