Hi folks, anyone ever come across TSU9600 buttons that act as though they’re stuck in the ‘pressed’ position?

I occasionally find my TSU9600 continuously emitting the IR signals associated with my CH+, CH- or Cursor Keys. Mashing the physical buttons makes no difference at all, and the buttons don’t appear to be physically stuck. The device will stop sending the IR signals when I enter the Diagnostics page (i.e. Backlight + Menu + Firm Key 2) and it behaves normally when I then exit the Diagnostics page (even if I didn’t touch the offending buttons at all). Since, I can stop the ‘stuck’ key from misbehaving without actually touching the key at all, I’m assuming there’s something more than dirt and grime at play here.

Things really came to head this morning, when the VOL+ key started to misbehave for the first time. I fought a loosing battle with the volume control on the front of my Sony AV Amp, whilst the Pronto did its best to crank the Breakfast News programme all the way to full volume.

I can’t recreate the sporadic problem at will, so any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome. For what it’s worth, the offending IR codes are only associated with button presses - they’re not called by any scripts at all.

Cheers,

Fergus

Sounds like you need to take the unit apart and with a pencil eraser clean the contacts on the board and then also clean the contacts under these buttons.

I don't suspect dirt/grime but rather cracked rubber under the plastic buttons. If that is the case, buy a used pronto off ebay and then replace the entire button set.

Note that you must buy a remote with the same type of scroll wheel - plastic or metal.

Thanks Lyndel, much appreciated! I’ve got a spare matching device with a dead screen, so that should serve as a donor.

If you need a service manual for the 9600/9800, email me. I don't have one for the 9400 but I have taken one apart before.
