Good morning. I'm using a 9400 and have had it for years. Now using Windows 10. After a brutal multiple attempt at installing PEP 2, I finally have the software working. However, when I try to learn a command in the Component Functions area, I get the "no compatible control panel connected" error.

I have searched the site and read all applicable posts, the most recent of which was in 2016, so I hope it's ok that I'm starting a thread on this. Hopefully, there is a solution to this that I haven't found yet. Anyway, in Device Manager, the Pronto shows up, so I know I have a good physical connection, and I have removed the Logitech wireless stuff and all other USB items.

Thanks for any input on this. Very frustrating situation, as I would really like to get my new configuration downloaded into the remote. Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I expect you have probably tried/are running PEP 2 in compatibility mode (Win XP or Win 7).

I expect you have probably tried/are running as administrator.

If not, worth a try!

I use PEP 3 beta on Windows 10 (with Win 7 compatibility) and have had no problems (yet!).
"Home" is where my Pronto is.

Unplug that Logitech wireless keyboard or mouse if you have it.

Those wireless USB dongles interfere with the HID interface that PEP1/2/3 need.

You mentioned this happens when trying to learn. What is the error mentioned when trying to download?

Next, have you tried using the firmware installer to do what is called a complete reset. There are steps somewhere here for 'complete firmware upgrade'.

Note that complete firmware upgrade will remove your current configuration from the device so be forewarned.

Thank you for your quick responses, Lyndel and 2Many. I finally got the software to work. I did try what you suggested in addition to the following:

Reinstall, and when it hung up at a certain point, I ended the Prontoedit database service via Task Manager, as suggested in someone's post in 2010. It is now possible to edit as needed and download to the remote. Only two issues appear to remain:

1. with remote connected it is not possible to test codes using the Test button. It is necessary to download the configuration into the remote and test from there. A little tedious while making and testing changes.
2. learning does work, but NOT from the remote that came with my new Sony A95K TV. Would it best for me to start a new thread on this?

Thanks very much for your help in getting PEP 2 to work again!

Are you sure that sony remote is IR and not bluetooth or RF?

Looks like it is not IR; most likely BT. All I wanted to access via the Pronto is Settings. No biggie.
