Hi all,
I just got a TSU9600 to replace my old RU model (gave the RU model to my uncle).
I bought it coz I thought the programming would be more or less the same and I could just upload what I had on my RU to the TSU9600. To my surprise (read horror), I find that the new software is much more ciimpicated than the ProntoEdit I was pretty familiar with (!)
Anyway, here's a few basic Qs:
1) I can't for the life of me seems to be able to open 2 system XCFs files at the same time. I'm working on my own, and wanted to copy some buttoms from the system XCFs I downloaded from this site, and it'll automatically close the one I'm working on. Is there a way I can open 2 projects at the same time and switch between them?
2) I download some of the system XCFs from this site, and I wanted to add some buttons, backgrounds from some of the wonderful works uploaded by the kind people here. But I can't seem to be able to do it right? How do I save a button, background to the database for easy access?
3) How do I copy and paste a whole Activity page from 1 PEP2 project to another? I just need the images (background, buttons etc) and not necessary the IR codes if it's not possible to transfer all from 1 to another.
Thanks in advance.

PEP 2 does not allow for opening more than one configuration file at a time. This is just one of the many things I deplore about PEP 2. Your only option in PEP 2 is to merge a given XCF file with the current XCF that you have open. That being said, I still use PEP v1.1.20 which retains the functionality of the Pronto NG series editors both in form and function while at the same time offering various enhancements. PEP v1.1.20 is available for download here at the site and can be installed right along side PEP 2. Click here to go directly to the download page for PEP 1.

1) Is there a way I can open 2 projects at the same time and switch between them? You have to open the first one, then merge the second one into it, then copy what you need from the second one, and then delete it. Alternatively, use the method in point 3 below. 2) How do I save a button, background to the database for easy access? In the properties window, click save image, then navigate to the desired place in your gallery, then name the file and save it. For buttons, save the pressed and released images separately using the standard naming suffices for buttons. Note that the save images will not (I think) appear in graphics gallery building block until you close and re-open PEPv2. 3) How do I copy and paste a whole Activity page from 1 PEP2 project to another? To copy: highlight the activity, right mouse click and save to gallery. To paste: highlight the activity in the graphics gallery building block and drag it into the configuration.

To follow up, 1) Where is the default Graphics Gallery located? I can't seem to find it. 2) I noticed that the Graphics Gallery are file under such tabs as 'Activities', 'Background', 'Images', 'Buttons' etc. How do I save an image to the location I want? 3) How do I create another folder/category in Graphics Gallery and save my images in this new folder/category? Thanks in advance.

I can't seem to merge 2 projects together. I have 1 XCF file opened. Then I went to File --> Import ProntoScript --> Merge --> went to the directory folder where the other XCF file I wanna merge is found, and I get.. "no items match your search" (?) The dropdown menu is set to 'PEP ProntoScript modules Export File (*.gef)', which is the only option available. What am I doing wrong? How do I merge 2 files like what Guy suggested? Thanks in advance.

Per PEP 2 you'll want to go to "File->Merge Project..." instead.
In PEP v1.1.20 you can simply open that second configuration file at the same time and copy/paste between the two. The merge option is also available of course in addition to the ability to import PCF and CCF files.

There's is no "Merge Profect" option at all.. There is New/Open/Close Project, Save Project/As/Pack and Go file, Download to Control Panel, Import/Export Gallery - Merge/Replace Import/Export Prontoscript - Merge/Replace Recent Files, Exit Where is this 'Merge Project' option found? Thanks.

Hi all,
Alrighty, I have managed to more or less configured the layout of my TSU9600 using PEP2.
Now only 1 (I hope) final question remains. This is gonna sound really stupid but I can't for the life of me figure it out after trying without success for like 4 hours !
How do u manually learn a IR signal from an orignaly remote and assign it to a button in my XCF file??
In my old RU model, I just go to Settings, go to "learn IR code" and then I point the original remote at my Pronto, and voila, code is learned to my assigned button. But there isn't any "Learn IR code" option in the Settings of my TSU9600 (?)
I looked at the Installer's Manual of the TSU9600, and it says something like this:
To add codes to My Database:
Option 1: In Factory Database, search the device, based on its model number and add it to My Database via the button *image*.
Option 2: In My Database, learn the codes from the original remote control of the A/V component. 1 Connect the Control Panel (or the docking station) to the PC with the USB cable. 2 Place the original remote 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm) from the Control Panel in line with its learning eye. Check if both the batteries are sufficiently charged. 3 Press and hold the key of the original remote for more than 1 second. Tip: With the Control Panel connected to the PC, you can test newly added codes via the editor. You press the Test IR button and the code will be sent to the A/V equipment.
To assign codes to the buttons in the code pages: 1 In the Tools menu, select My Database Quick Access. 2 Select the code from the list and drag-and-drop the code to the button."
I have done exactly as Option 2 instructed and... I don't see anything happening or any code learned.
Please help me guys, WHAT am I doing wrong? This is really getting to be pretty demoralizing.. :(
Some of the other problems I have are:
1) I can't find where "Factory Database" is.
2) I can't find where the "Test IR" button is.
Can some kind soul pleassse explain in detail how do I manually learn a remote's IR codes to my TSU9600, please?
Thanks in advance.

Oh, just to add so you guys know exacly what I did to try and learn manually the IR code from my Philips SoundBar. - Connect the TSU9600 to my PC using the supplied USB cable. - With my project opened, I went to My Databse (window changed from my program to My Database page. There is nothing in the box, empty. I only have a 'New Component' tab that I can click. I didn't click it. - I did what the Installer's Manual suggested, and 'Place the original remote 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm) from the Control Panel in line with its learning eye. ==> Nothing happens. So what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

PEP 2 does not support the learning of IR codes to buttons. This is just one of the many "enhancements" (sarcasm) PEP 2 offers over PEP1. PEP 1 offers the "My Database" feature as well, but doesn't force you to have to use it as PEP 2 does. That being said, as you are new to PEP 2 I'd suggest that you utilize the help file which is accessible via the file menu or "F1". Once accessing the help file perform a search on the word, "Learn" which should get you going in the right direction.

As Lowpro says, PEPv1 and PEPv2 handle the learning and storage of IR codes differently. He prefers the (old) PEPv1 method. I prefer the (newer) PEPv2 method. As Lowpro also says, you have to read the help file which is associated with the version of PEP that you are using.

PEP 2 does not support the learning of IR codes to buttons. ?? Serious? You mean if I can't find the IR code of a device I have in Philips' database, I can't manually learn the IR code from my original remote? ..... Can't be. I refused to believe I spend so much money on something that can't do a simple task like manually learning an IR code, when a $5 dollar universal remote from China can do that (!) It did say you can manually learn the IR code from an original remote just by 'connecting the USB cable, point the remote at the TSU and press the button to be learned for 1 sec'. I just can''t get it to work. I must be missing 1 simple, but important, step. Sigh... I have tried googling for HOURS for instructions to do the simplest of task for ANY universal remote, with no success. This is really driving me up the wall. It's so absurd, it's not even funny. Sigh...

Okie,
I think I figured it out.
Thanks both of you for your replies. It's really much appreciated.
There is indeed a few steps I weren't doing earlier. I think I got it now.
Thanks again. :)
