As it seems that many devices now use RF, WiFi or whatever else, our older IR remotes don’t cut it anymore.

Could this Haptique RS90 be the way to return to the single universal remote on our coffee tables?

It's an Indian company working out of France.

There is no indication that they have anyone on staff that understands the control system business, as it relates to home systems. I think when I looked this up a few weeks ago, they have a guy that has experience with industrial control systems in manufacturing.

It also seemed by all I have researched, they will be running individual apps on the device to control equipment; the OS is apparently Android. You can do the same BS with an old phone or tablet and add a USB-to-IR dongle. You are only gaining some hard buttons.

Of course everyone will have to wait till it is actually available (if ever), to see how it does.
But there are 1/2 dozen other products coming out that are JUST like this at different price points. And none of them seem to be panning out well. The couple that have released are having programming issues, features not there that are needed, and overall lack luster performance. Not to mention sorely lacking databases that are incomplete.

I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Thanks for the detailed « report » Brad.

I miss the days when my TSU9600 was all I needed to control everything. 😞

Thanks for the links Brad. That AVA remote with 3D glass is impressive. 🙂

I’m not sure if either of those would control RF devices though.
Like the Comcast Xfinity. 😕

Technically it can, that is part of the features promised by these new Android based remotes. But like I mentioned, the database of devices is sorely lacking so unless it is specifically mentioned by the company, it might not be able to. And no guarantee it will be added in the future. And no guarantee that even if it does, it will stay working in the future when the provider changes something on their box - that is one of the big challenges with controlling devices over IP. Unlike good-ole IR, IP can and does change sometimes.

Hello Brad,

I am Willis Desai founder of Haptique RS90. I am a professional AV consultant & integrator having experience of 15+ years in AV. I founded Cantata in 2013 an SI company. I started from recording studio as DAW engineer to later Pro AV, DMX lighting designer for large government installs I also designed acoustics for large theatres and music studios. I have been a Crestron, AMX and Kramer programmer myself so I posses adequate knowledge about control systems. After spending 10 years straight as a system integrator I decided to build a product and I always fancy a Universal remote. The typical Home theater solution we used to sell was around $3000 where there was no budget to have a remote based control system and often customer used to struggle. This was my insight and thus I build it from the scratch with 20 people working on this project in three different countries.

Coming to you point on Android system, before jumping on to any conclusion you can consider Amazon Fire OS a custom Android ROM which is there since some time. No one has complain to this I am sure. We followed this route as well, reasons are below:

Best UI Experience with ASOP
Easy developer availability in our region
Google services
MATTER
KOTLIN native app development
Ability to nearly run any code on this was our point where we decided to do this with Android as it is a front end device. For your knowledge Kramer touch panels are the same custom rom.

We are MFi partner and building tvOS bluetooth integration which will allow us to control Apple TV and Siri from Haptique.

Our Android system is provided by the SOC OEM which we alter to our liking or optimise it. Over all a good starting point. We spent lot of time and money discussion our vision with IoT consultant and Android was the first choice for the purpose.

This arrangement today allows us to use Raw, Pronto and GC IR codes. Our Macros will support activities just like harmony and ignore repeating of IR commands. There is lot of work we have put behind the screen here.

The App interface has two parts one is on your smartphone and other runs on the device. What is see on device is from the configuration app we build, both are Native Android apps which is resource consuming to build. We use seamless configuration experience you may check out a video we posted.

Now as I am writing we just cracked a deal to get 7000+ brands IR db which seems to be largest among any available one. We tried our best to talk with Global Cache but they were completely ignorant.

We are sure the UI experience we bring is never seen before with functions such as Quickbuttons and Widget it will take the UI experience at next level. We are sure this is not found anywhere yet.

We tried our hands on Halo Touch, RTI Touch, Savant Pro remote, Nice and then we came up with this design. There is MATTER support coming next year which is possible because of Google services.

We have built IR and RF extender in to a smartplug which will work as an endpoint.

There are two models to choose from one is RS90 and standard version and RS90x with on board IR reader+fingerprint sensor+Oled and larger battery also better aesthetics.

We want to offer a product solution which is not limited behind the proprietary dealer network system and unnecessarily overpriced. I am sure you will acknowledge our efforts and look into what we discuss on Reddit and KS. I invite you to join a conversation on [email protected] for any further information.

Thank you
Willis Desai

You should probably update the info on your company online. Because I didn't find anything that indicated to me the company had anyone experienced with these specific type of products.

I would like to add that relying on Google services as part of your product is a big mistake. Even companies like URC have been burned in the past with relying on Microsoft services for some past products, which inevitably (years later) is causing issues with connecting to their products to program. Google is WAY worse at killing services than Microsoft.

Good luck.

Interesting Willis.

Are the two models available now?

Does it support Xfinity voice commands?
