My new iOS App "myTifi Remote" is available for free in the App Store:
[Link: itunes.apple.com]

myTifi Remote is a TV remote via Wifi for Samsung TV's.
"Yes," I can hear you think, "isn't there already an official App from Samsung?"

True, but myTifi Remote has a combination of unique features, which are not present in the Samsung app (or any remote app):
- A new way of channel navigation; just press the icon of the channel you want to watch, and myTifi Remote makes sure that your TV goes to the correct channel (e.g. Discovery Channel is linked to channel 28). These icons are of course completely customizable.
- And you just swipe over the channel icons to change the volume, or (old-fashioned style) the channel.
- Smart Source takes you instantly to your connected devices, like your PS3 on HDMI-2.
- Auto-Mute; on an incoming or accepted phone call, the Mute command is send to suppress the audio. When the call is finished it is send again to restore the audio.
- myTifi Remote supports besides the C and D Series also the very popular B-Series from model year 2009 that are equipped with Internet@TV*.

* B-Series only works in combination with the free SamyGo Remote LAN Application (available at http://samygo.tv/).

No, since the Samsung TV's don't support wake-on LAN.
The official Samsung Remote app also doesn't support this.

No, we are specialized in iOS.

I can highlight the tip of our development plan.
We currently focussing on making the iPhone app robust and complete.
Also support of other TV brands, like Philips, will be added.
And of course the iPad is a magnificent device for a dedicated iPad version of myTifi Remote.

Hardly revolutionary

This is a hardware limitation of the Samsung TV, not of this App.

Version 1.6.1 has been uploaded to Apple.

All known network and connection issues have been solved.
Additionally, the search time that is required to detect and connect to a device is significantly reduced.
  • myTifi Remote only received the first response that was send by all network devices. If this wasn't from a Samsung device (e.g. Philips TV or media player), it couldn't connect.
In version 1.6.1 ALL responses from multiple devices are analyzed. Non Samsung devices are ignored.
To give you the fastest user experience, myTifi Remote connects to the first responding Samsung device.
In case you have multiple Samsung devices connected to your network, this might not the desired device.

You can click on 'More devices' to see a list of all discovered Samsung devices, and easily select the one that you want to connect to.

  • When resuming from the background or lock screen, the connection to the TV was often lost.
This is solved by introducing an auto-reconnect feature, that only takes 0.3 seconds* to reconnect to your TV when resuming.

When you have multiple Samsung devices, the reconnect is done with the last TV that did connect successfully.

  • Minor corrections are made to the German localization.
It is expected the update becomes available in the next few days.

* on iPhone 4 with iOS 5, depending on your local network.

Version 1.7.2 has been uploaded to Apple:

  • Added a check to detect if Wifi is enabled. This runs at startup, when resuming from the background or unlocking the Lock Screen.

  • During Auto Zap it is prevented that the Lock Screen becomes active. Therefor Auto Zap will not be terminated anymore.

  • Added Danish localization (many thanks to Anders T Hansen).

  • Add remote layout BN59-1014A.

  • For iOS 4: Improved reconnecting to TV when resuming from the Lock Screen.

  • Multiple improvements to increase the stability and performance.

  • Bugfix: the titles of Smart Channel buttons 31 till 90 were not correctly shown in case no logo was selected.

  • Bugfix: myTifi Remote could terminate unexpectedly when pressing the Done button on the keyboard of the Internet screen when sending empty text.
It is expected the update becomes available around next weekend.

Version 1.7.2 is now available in the App Store:
http://itunes.apple.com/app/mytifi-remote/id441912305?mt=8

Meanwhile we have submitted version 1.8.2 to Apple.
This will optimize the App by the following changes:

  • The source code is made fully compatible with iOS 5.1.
  • Improved fault handling of the In-App Purchase when not connected to the App Store.
  • To prevent confusion, the Info button is removed from the Internet screen for C and D-Series, since the Help is only for B-Series.
  • Multiple improvements to increase the stability and performance.
  • Bugfix: when entering an IP Address manually on the Info screen, the app could freeze or even quit unexpectedly.

iPad support is added to version 2, which is available in the App Store:
[Link: itunes.apple.com]

To further optimilize the user experience, we have submitted version 2.2.2 to Apple:
  • Support for all iPad screen orientations to be able to use the iPad in landscape orientation.
  • When a logo is selected for a Smart Channel, the grey button background is not shown anymore.
  • The Smart Source button on the iPad Smart screen is relocated to the navigation bar, resulting in more space between the buttons on the 120 button layout.
  • The command that is send on the Smart screen was shown in an overlay on top of the Smart Channel buttons. To improve the readability this is now relocated; for iPad to the navigation bar and for iPhone/iPod to the open spot left to the Smart Source button.
  • When clearing the text input on the Internet screen (with the X in the text field), the RED button command is send automatically to the TV to clear the text field on the TV. This only works if the text field on the TV has focus (and not for Samsung B-Series).
  • Fixed issue where during Demo Mode still a connection error was shown when sending text on the Internet screen.

Hello,

I downloaded and installed the full App on my iPad...it's really a nice tool. :-)
But please allow me the following (may be stupid question):

How do you allocate the different TV channel icons to the different buttons?

Do I need an extra tool?
I own a Samsung C model (Samsung UE32E32ES6710SXXN)

Thanks a lot in adavnce for your help

With kind regards

Roby
