This is driving me crazy. If you point the OEM remote at your smarphone's camera and then press a button on the remote, you can see a light flashing on the smartphone's screen when the remote sends an IR command.
When I press the "TV" button on the OEM remote for the Sony KD-65X85K television, sometimes I see the flash of light and sometimes I don't. Either way the command gets sent to the television. The reason I care is because I'm trying to teach the command to another remote, so I need to find a reliable way to get the OEM remote to send an IR command when I press the "TV" button.

I've discovered this is true of other buttons on the OEM remote, too. Moreover, it seems that after the OEM remote "rests" for awhile it will emit an IR signal on the first press only. After that, it won't until it rests for awhile. The first rest period seems to be only about 15 minutes. After that, it seems to be a much longer rest period. It may be that the television has to be off during the rest periods.

In case anyone finds this thread and is looking for the solution, I've found it. Go into "Settings" on your Sony KD-65X85K television, then Remotes & Accessories, then Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth off then all the commands sent from the OEM remote will be IR commands.
