Trying to learn codes from a Pioneer AVR Remote (AXD7615). Continually getting an error. I'm not overdriving the remote. It is far enough away from the learner. Tested 2 or 3 non related remotes and it works fine. Just having problems with the Pioneer remote.

Error Learning Function: IPOD_LEFT
Cause: Error retrieving data
Would you like to try again?

Any thoughts?

I hate to say this, but try teaching it to an original generation Pronto, then copy the hex into the Crestron.

When I was into this, the Pronto TS1000, the Crestron Learner, and the RTI Learner all gave excellent results. Maybe one of the other learners will catch it.

Are you saying that you're getting an error on just this one code, or is that a message typical of ___ number of unlearnable commands?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I second that. Excellent suggestion

It is typical for all of the buttons on this remote only. I tried a couple of other remotes ( sat box and a dvd remote) I had kicking around the house and they worked fine.

try short pulse and long pulse to learn. I will use a solid object to block the sensor and only lift it for the briefest of moments. You will need to test the code learned if using this method.

Usually the pronto will work when the crestron learner wont. I put the remote flat on a table about 10 inches away with fresh batteries. I ignore the software telling me when to press and release and i just quickly tap the button.

The codes you are trying to learn are most likely the 'two part' Pioneer codes.
They're made up of two codes and some Learning devices only manage to record the first part.
The Speakercraft LTM learning device in it's default setting only picks up the first part of the code, you can however turn off the 'auto format recognition' on the LTM, the code is then learnt correctly.
Maybe this is an option in the Crestron piece?

Test using the CNXLIR. You may need to do this any number of times till you've captured the complete code set.

My guess is that you have not yet learned the code set even if Windeal says you have. But you never know till you try.

I took your advise on this and enabled muti-codes in preferences. I also changed the settings to low sample rate and changed the minimum repeats to 1. Bingo it learned and worked. Thanks for the hint!!

At the moment there are three or four Prontos on sale at ebay. It should not be a big deal to pick one up.

I liked the functionality and the larger screen on the Marantz RC5200, too, and its learner seems equally as good. And more pixels means more commands, or larger type, on a screen.

Thanx for the heads up Ernie. I'm going to get me one. Seems that's the best way to learn codes. The Crestron learner is just too finicky and time consuming!!
There are several models available on Ebay. Is there a specific moel that I should get over the others?

You can find the hex codes here.

That remote comes with VSX-1021 receiver.
