I have 2 systems out there with internet and remote access through PPPOE. They work until the service drops or there's a power failure. They wont resolve afterwards. I'm not that up on PPPOE and I am curious if others have had this problem and if there is a solution. Thanks in advance.

PPPOE is point to point protocol over ethernet, it is primarily used by DSL providers. im not sure where your issue would be. did you use the DSL modem in bridge mode and let the router handle PPoE settings? if not there is nothing you would ever do that would be related to PPPoE settings. if so, there could definitely be an issue of your router reconnecting after power interuption. obviously a UPS would go a long way. There are many settings on the timing and frequency of connection management in most routers.

Some DSL modems also act as a router and if you have a router behind that you are asking for problems. PPOE requires credentials to authenticate the connection. You might try to use a public DNS server in your DNS options.

The modem at one site is 30 feet up a tree..Yikes

virtually every project we do is with Verizon DSL. We always handle PPoE settings in router so we can open/close ports as needed and not have to worry about settings in the modem. i have found that cheap entry level routers have always given me problems with this. i would ask your provider for any tips tricks for proper timing intervals, etc.

Thanks much

Hmmm...I just got into the one processor remotely. This customer has speco cameras so I was able to get the new outside ip address that had been updated and resolved to the speco ddns server. Got into the PMC2+ through this address and rebooted the processor. crestron ddns resolved the new ip address a few minutes later. So my next question is if speco ddns was able to update then why wouldn't crestron ddns update? Does crestron ddns only update on a reboot?

Why not use a service like DynDNS? Most routers have an update client built in. I am not familiar with the way crestrons DNS service works, but it seems more reliable to let the router update the IP than a device behind the router.

I'd call Crestron to see how/when the processor updates the Crestron DNS. If it's only after a reset, ie power failure, then that could be the problem. I would think that it takes longer for the DSL modem to get it's IP then it takes for the processor to try to update it's IP with the DNS.
I could be completely off base on this but my brain thinks this is plausible.

Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;) |

I could be completely off base on this but my brain thinks this is plausible. I've been watching it in real time and it looks like it is updating every 5 minutes. Strange thing happened. It updated the ddns last night but got a call today from the client saying that he couldn't connect. I looked at mycrestron and the ip has reverted back to the old ip!!! WTF?? In real time it is updatiing but it doesn't update at crestron...hmmmmm
