I've been a Pronto user for a long time and am very comfortable with programming in codes, actions, buttons, etc. in a host of places. I've also been to CEDIA a few times. It seems like a Crestron system could be the best way to go for highly reliable control, but I would be developing for myself. What's the cheapest way to get into such a system? I'd be happy to buy a used controller, etc. Thanks!

Do you have the Crestron Programming Suite of Software?

If not, unless you are a Crestron Authorized Inpendent Programmer or work for a Crestron dealer, you will not be able to get it and thus not be able to program any Crestron systems.

Jon,

That is the Crestron distribution dealer. I assume you have access to the product?

The only thing that worries me is that when you put "cheapest" and "Crestron" together, you are asking for trouble. There is nothting inexpensive about Crestron, even Prodigy.

However, the new PMC3 will hand a boat load of mobile applications.

Thanks for the responses.  I am an enthusiast with a programming background and am familiar with remote programming (just not with Crestron).  Crestron IS costly, which is why I'm looking for the cheapest way in (which certainly will still not be cheap).  :)

I asked about what A$A# is because I find nothing when googling that (andthe numbers and letters are a bit uncommon in company names.  Does anyone have info they can pass on for it?  THANKS!

Sounds like perhaps I should go for Control4 with as tight as Crestron makes distribution. Agreed? I'd really like to go Crestron if I can (largely) do it myself.

Purchasing the product won't be an issue. You can find stuff on ebay and there are plenty of dealers.

The problem is that you won't have access to the Software suite, making it not an option. This isn't Crestron Specific, you will have the same problem with Control 4, RTI, Savant, etc.

The only professional product that allows for dealer discretion on providing the software or not to the end client, is URC. While they don't have near the solutions that the other guys have. If you want to do it yourself, this is probably your best bet.
