Hello, I recently purchased an MX-980 Remote Control from . co . uk Ebay and am British. It was a sent from USA, purchase. After initial problems with the supplied adapter not working, today I received a replacement adapter and the device is currently charging. I do not have the MX-980 editor software and the seller doesn't seem that bothered by fact. I see you have a files section and files for the MX-980 but I cannot see anything specifically entitled "MX980 Editor", admittedly I haven't looked to see if there's an MX-6000 (or some name like that) editor yet. I managed to download pdfs day of getting the 1st package so have both programming and shorter end user simplified manual. If it's there can someone tell me what I should be looking at for title? Really sorry about this, that's if it's there, thanks. Incase you are wondering I contact formed URC before even finding this site today over the editor and yes I did look before, a couple of weeks back but didn't see you, I thought if you have it, it might save some time, it's not a con by me if its not there just say so, I just thought it might save a little time, I'm an eager beaver. Thanks. Looks a really good remote control, the shape is what initially attracted me, please no wry comments on that fact.

The software is dealer only and has been for many many years now. You can NOT get the software unless you are a URC authorized dealer. To enforce this, URC has made the software cloud authenticate. Meaning, every time you use the software, the dealer has to login with their dealer credentials to use it. With that being said, there are people out there that have found a way to get around the authentication, while using the latest version of the software. I have no idea how they do it and there is no where on the internet I have found promoting this. So if you are able to get past this, it will probably take you so many hours of research as to not be worth it. As of right now, you bought a paper weight.

Okay well err that kind of sucks. I read somewhere about an Australian having been given login details by URC. It appears also that URC hasn't replied to my contact form message so I will have to resort to email. Pretty bleepy world isn't it chaps? One user remote controls-dont lose your remote control you won't get another. Tattoo it on your chest, it's yours for life and no-one else can have it. AS REGARDS getting recent then around it that will likely be too complicated-do or did all versions require home base (manufacturer) connection? Have not any versions just allowed a download and you can use it offline? Very, very disappointed that guy was allowed to sell it on ebay uk without adequate description. I gave him 2 stars too, well if URC either ignore me or won't help I will likely take it a proving just how useless overseeing authorities are route. Thankyou for your reply. Why is life nowadays just so difficult, caused by others or is USA always like this? I seem to have gone question mark crazy, sign of a stressful last few days, thanks anyway.

It's the mentality of "you will own nothing". It is now common place across all industries. It has gotten this way because of 2 reasons. 1) Governments that are suppose to protect consumers, no longer do. They take the bribes lobbing money and pander to the big corporations. 2) People allow all this to happen. I have no idea how the general population has gotten so brain washed. It used to be we all saw them trying and laughed at the attempts. Fast forward decades later and suddenly it seems to have worked. Everyone around me seems to be ok with their freedoms being taken away and crushed under the boot. Back on topic = I can understand URC doing this for the Total Control (TC) line, makes perfect sense. But doing this to the Complete Control Product (CCP) makes no sense what-so-ever! But it's a dead horse now, they are never going back to CCP being available for the public. Sad and stupid. To answer your question about old software = Being that the MX-980 is a very old remote, it will be in old versions of the software. So if can find an old copy of the software (and do NOT update it), then you could use it to program the remote. It will not have the latest database of codes in it but you can import new codes in still.

I have CCP_Installer from '22. I also have CCPSetup from '15. However, not sure that would help as the installer might need to download data from their servers anyway. Not sure if any of these are full functioning applications. And, yes, it totally sucks. I've still yet to find a viable competing product. I haven't tried Control4 so maybe that is just as good. In general I feel like world has move on into either HDMI CEC direction. Or simply just having a TV with soundbar and built-in apps. People don't need any remote except TV. I think people with multiple devices and closet of equipment are becoming niche.

The old software from 2015 doesn't need anything else to function. It is a whole programming software. And... you would want to block it from doing any update, otherwise you would lock it and have to reinstall the old software all over again.

Thanks Brad, thanks TVAddict, that's very kind of you. I think URC has supplied me with a version, they didnt actually say here you go, after my virtually on knees email, they replied and mentioned a line about dealers then gave 2 links, one for the Editor software which appears to be version ... 1.0.2008.6181 (68kb) and another for a 14 page tip guide. Unfortunately I've tried several compatability settings on the downloaded from link software with my Windows 10 PC and all I get is a "do you want to continue, unverified blah blah", "yes", then it goes to like a black screen for a not that worrying 1.5 seconds and exits out. Might either of you, or anybody have compatability settings to get it to work on Windows 10??? (I don't need anything usb plugged in just for initial install/run do I?) [Agreed with what you said on world, Brad, as a large/vastly combining source of small/medium money we are just what they want, otherwise, tumbleweed].

I installed it without issue on a windows 10 pc. Might try it logged in as admin ? Specifically 1.0.2008.6181 (68kb), Sir?? If so how. I will leave this window minimised and try again. Right its an application so I just have deselected the troubleshooter settings I'd tried, right click it in downloads(I received a link for it in email), select "run as administrator" and run the application and..up pops "User Account Control . Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device. Publisher unknown". I click yes and a black screen comes up for about three quarters of a second and then returns me out. If Iright click on properties for the file in exporer and select details tab,Copyright states "Copyright(c) 2004 by Universal Remote C..." and I cant expand box to see the rest. Below that it does state Language English (United States) so I dont know 1. that may be the issue as my Windows 10 is using standard English. But basically nope, doesnt run as admin. 2. The RC doesnt need to be attached does it at this point? I've ordered a cable as it didnt come with, but its same my canon camera will use so wont be a waste of expense. 3. Sir its probably been a long time but if you ran as admin, did you get that blurb come up that just happened with me, I thought that only occurred when you dont, that UAC message? AND DID YOU GET PUBLISHER UNKNOWN comment? I am about to give up on it, totally dejected, waste of expense for me, its just dragging and dragging and dragging.

okay, its been a few days, no reply, did say to ignore or block incase I tried getting back in touch (because of all that guff, the talk about it being difficult to program and them not liking all the contact and handholding), so not really their fault. Okay thanks guys. I will find a cupboard for it to go in.

I have installed CCP on windows 7, 10 and 11, and may have done it as admi, not sure, and although have have had a lot off issues getting the USB driver to work I have had 0 problems getting the software installed. Onyl thoughts, 1) Is the download of the installer corrupt - try downloading again ? 2) Try another pc
