Hi. A friend has an MX-450 that was set up by an installer several years ago. I have experience programming the MX-780 and MX-890 but no experience with the 450. All their equipment is in the basement, controlled via RF, except the TV.

The remote has suddenly stopped controlling the TV. I checked the configuration on the remote and it has the TV set to IR only (all the other components have both IR and RF enabled). When I point the remote at my phone camera and push buttons the IR emitter does not light up. So my best guess is the IR emitter has died. Does this happen with the 450? Is it likely a hardware issue or might it be possible to revive it?

Assuming it is dead, I guess the easiest fix would be to get another 450 and load the same config on it. It looks like the 490 is the new 450. Can the 450 config be loaded on a 490?

Any other suggestions, besides jumping up to a 890 or something better?
Thanks!

Usually with URC remotes when the IR fails, RF doesn't work either. And it usually indicates it on the on-screen menu, by pressing MAIN & ENT for bit it will have IR fail there.

Thanks. I'll check that as soon as I get the chance.

It needs a new IR Transmitter LED. I have changed a few for customers and remotes I have purchased and refurbished. It does need to be soldered in, so some skills are needed.

The Light ones are the ones are the Transmitters if IIRC.

Ah, thanks. My soldering skills are not the best but I can usually get by. I'll look into that.

Let us know if you are successful in replacing the LED. It may benefit others to know it can work. I thought about doing it on a remote a few years ago but at the time couldn't find the correct LED. Thanks Shokwaverider for the link.

It might be a little while until I get a chance to try it, but I will post an update.

I had a thought.. if you had an old/used mrf you could put that behind the tv and put an emitter on the tv.

Hi. I thought about an MRF base station, thanks. I ended up getting a used MX-450 off ebay. I was able to transfer the programming over using the PC software and it is working great. URC has a web site to request the software for some of the legacy remotes.

So I was finally able replace the IR LEDs on the old one. Unfortunately it is still not working. :-( I don't know if it my lousy soldering skills or something else is wrong. They seem to be soldered in ok. The remote still boots up but I'm not getting any IR action. It was worth a shot. Thanks, all, for the advice.
