As the one millionth person to ask this type of question, I apologize in advance.

I’ve bought almost a dozen URC remotes and MRF’s from a couple of Authorized URC dealers over the years, along with a ton of other equipment, and the dealers have always provided me with the appropriate Total Control software. Unfortunately, both dealers went out of business in 2020 so I do not have a source for software. Even if I did, as I understand it, Total Control is no longer kept current with IR codes, and Complete Control requires being a dealer. URC has a Software Request page for older remotes including the MX900 if it’s manufactured before 2013, as mine are. Unfortunately, URC has not acknowledged or responded to my request and I re sent the request a few days ago and still have heard nothing. I think I’m in the wilderness on this one.

So, what are my options? My last version I loaded on my MX-900 was in 2017 so I’m guessing my Total Control SW may have been updated around then. I was hoping that URC might have a slightly newer version of Total Control than what I have but I’m not holding my breath. How would I locate and import IR codes on my own? Find hex codes and transfer them using URC tool? Some people on Remote Central used to share files of their system remote setup and one could extract device codes.


Any ideas where I can find discreet codes for a Samsung 65S90CD OLED and a Yamaha Aventage RX-A6A, and how I can import them into my legacy Total Control MX-900 specific software?

You have mixed up, Total Control has always and still is locked, the software was NEVER available to customers. Complete Control is what mx-900 remote belongs to, and URC has let some end users software passwords. Try getting in touch with URC, this time ask for the right software, Complete Control. :)

No, I have it right. Complete Control requires a dealer login and is available through the Dealer Portal and will not open without a current Dealer Login ID. It is also the name of this Forum. The MX-900 belongs to both Complete Control and Total Control depending on the year of manufacture, and if you program any MX-900 using Complete Control you can no longer load Total Control files

Total Control is the software that was/is device specific and was allowed to be given by some authorized dealers to their customers. I have separate installers for each remote I purchased from my authorized URC dealers e.g. MX-800 install.exe, MX-850 install.exe, and MX-900 install.exe the most recent is dated 2006. My Total Control MX-900 software that I installed has an updated date of 2017, which brings me to my question…

If I am unable to update my Total Control software and am not a dealer authorized to dl and use Complete Control, what are my options to update my MX-900 and add my 2024 TV and receiver? No, apparently I HAD IT WRONG. The above was my understanding because every time I open up my dealer provided stand alone remote editors it says Total Control, and when I downloaded the Complete Control software from the Dealer Portal, it included all remotes and hardware but required a Dealer Login ID to open it. Looking back at the URC site I can clearly see the more customized nature of the Total Control products, and all the MX remotes are in the Complete Control line.


Sorry about taking such an emphatic stance! Rather than delete my post above I’ll leave it up as penance for being so sure of myself.

Put in a request and got an automated response within minutes. Maybe with the MX-900 they need a human to look at it and verify if its legacy or modern version.

Seems like Complete Control is getting new updates every month.
Which is great.
