Hi all,
I am considering upgrading my ageing MX-780 to something more recent. Mostly due to the very dim LCD and need to press a button to lit up the keys. Otherwise the remote functions fine.

I am controlling a very simple set-up:
1. old LG TV (no ARC)
2. Roku (really it is a Firestick via Flirc programmed to Roku)
3. Parasound pre-amp
4. Dynaudio powered speakers

It looks like the 880 is the closest in feel and layout.
However, I wanted to check here before purchasing.

Also, is there still an online authorized URC seller?

Thanks

The most important question is = Do you already have the programming software? AND a login/password for it?

If you don't know what that means, you need to do some reading. A lot has changed this last year at URC. No one is happy about it.

That said, the MX-780 was a horrible remote. Just about anything is going to be an upgrade. The new model MX-790 is a much improvement. If you wanted to go with a rechargeable battery, the MX-890 or MX-990 would be a good choice (990 preferred since its not much more).
The 880 has been discontinued for awhile.
If you are looking at used remotes, note most MX-890 for sale on eBay are the old style with a dimmer backlight. There was a running change that addressed this and the newer ones can be identified by the change in the button text vs the old ones.

my only gripe with the 890 is that it's really slow to load if you want to do something fancy with the graphics.  otherwise it's a great remote.

if you are more into doing custom graphics, i'd step up to the 990.

The MX790 is the replacement. If you were happy with the MX780, you'll probably love the MX790. See below:
