Hi all, I know this topic has been covered ad nauseam, but I have an MX-850 which I purchased from an authorized dealer about 7 years ago (needless to say, they are long out of business). At the time of purchase, the Editor Software was provided and I still have it loaded but I can no longer get Live Update to work to update a few of my components. Any options other than going to a different dealer and shelling out $$$? I got fairly comfortable with programming it myself but don't have the updated components in there - running Editor version 1.12.224 right now. Thanks!

All Live Update would do is possibly prevent you from having to learn your new device's commands if they've been added to the database.

At the end of the day, even with an older database, all you have to do to control your equipment is learn those commands. That's why these remotes are able to learn in the first place.

Thats only partially true. Most remotes do not have discrete power and input commands. So an updated database is beneficial. Of course, a lot of equipment will use the same commands from older models.

Most discretes don't change, and if they do chances are high you can also obtain them in Pronto Hex format, which can be easily imported into the MX-850 software.

And one thing to remember, when URC adds a new specific device model number to the database, nine times out of ten all that's doing is referencing one of a handful of "master" codesets available at the end of the list - it doesn't actually customize anything for that specific device. So, you could spend hours fighting to get an updated database that shows your model, only to find that device is configured to use a codeset you had all along.

So, all I'm trying to say... if you don't have the most recent database, it's very likely nothing to worry about. If you're looking for an update because you're having trouble controlling your device, or need specific commands not otherwise available to you, just ask and I'm sure we can help.

Do you get any type of pop up message on your screen when you try and run the live update?  What devices do you need codes for?
