I need something longer than the standard URC Serial cable, and I don't want to just cut the premade cable.

I know I can splice it, into cat5 or 22/4 and others, but that looks fugly.
Soldering is an option with shrink tube, but I rather avoid it if possible.

Do you guys have any sources for long cables with the jack on either (or both ends)?

Sort of like this one but with 4 wires: [Link: google.com]

I have an application where I have 2 racks on casters. MSC400 base in one rack and some of the equipment to be controlled is in the second rack.
I'll even take a splicing block if it's functional and not too fugly.
I was thinking of using european terminal block like this, and cutting it down to 3 terminals that I'll need on either side.

Why don't you just use a serial extender cable?

Hey, why didn't I think of that?
I wanted to use single cat5 between the racks for few discreet IR and RS232, but this might be an option.
Thanks.

Or you could use a pair of those DB9 to screw terminal connectors and extend with Cat 5 using those.

But I advise keeping your total distance <50', preferably <40'
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

We used to do this by using premade db9 cables or soldering together our own db9 cables.   Now we cut and solder splice them with cat5 and heat shrink.  So simple and don't have to stock anything extra.

I was looking for that 2 weeks ago.
Let me see if I can find that source.
Now that I think about it, I never placed an order, duh...
