Looking at photos of the new MX-890 model, it appears the enter button and the up, down, left and right cursor are one single button, making it difficult to hit Enter itself without inadvertently moving the cursor.

Older style URC remotes used to have this problem, which was later corrected on the MX-850 with a separate Enter button in the middle of the cursor rocker switch.

Please tell me if the enter button is separated from the cursor rocker switch on the MX-890.

Thanks!

The Enter key is on the bottom row right of the zero, if you refering to Select key and cursor pad they are one piece, but haven't had any trouble with it.

Why would they have gone back to a single one piece button design when a separate select key works so much better?

Can you easily push the select key without inadvertently activating the cursor position?

The button feels as though there is a single cover over separate buttons. Hard to explain perhaps. It gives you a MUCH better feel than the older pre MX850 remotes. You will not have an issue with it.

just programmed one of these and tested it thoroughly.  no issue navigating any menus using the arrow keys and select button.

the only thing that i don't like about the remote, is that you have to put graphics into specific folders, and it doesn't support animated gif images.  (that didn't stop me from putting an animation on it for the please wait page though)  :)

Care to share how you accomplished that? Did you just input like any custom graphic?

i chopped up my animated gif into several separate images then created a page for each of them in the program.  using jumps, i put the animation back together by flipping from one page to the next.

the mx890 is fairly slow to flip pages, so I had to play with the number of page jumps in order to get the delay time between TV power On, and the TV input commands.  22 page flips turned into a delay of a bit over 10 seconds, which was perfect for the TV i was working with.

if i had a remote that needed 10 seconds to do a macro because of the TV, i would definitely be throwing that remote through the TV in frustration.

i'm confused.  what should the remote do for 10 seconds while the TV is turning on?  This install used an old receiver with no HDMI video switching, so all video was routed to the TV.  The TV takes 10 seconds to turn on before allowing an input command.

using variables, it only happens when the tv is turning on, not switching between activities when the TV is already on.

I switched over a customer from DirecTV to Cable yesterday. It's been a while since I've been there. I forgot just how long the Mistubishi LED he has takes to power completely on. I counted about 30 seconds before there was a picture displayed on the screen. Some sets just take a longggggggggggggg time.

A different question. With remotes that have pickup sensors like the MX890, do you turn off the sensor when programming for systems on boats? I would think the constant roll of the boat would make the batteries die quickly.

I've only had one customer ever ask me to disable the pickup sensor, and that was because he didn't like the remote lighting up at night when he bumped it in bed.

Most people like the pickup sensor, and if the boat is just sitting at the dock, they don't light up when sitting on the charger or on a countertop.  I would imagine that when the boat is underway that the light sensor turns on often, but I haven't had any complaints on battery life.
