I have a Samsung 6000 series SmartTV and a Pioneer VSX-1021k AVR. All the boxes conenct to the AVR via HDMI. An HDMI cable connects the AVR out to the HDMI2 port of the TV which supports ARC. I'm trying to write a script that turns the TV on, turns the AVR on, sets the TV input to the antenna (which is set to the air antenna), and sets the AVR input to TV/Sat. It works except for one small problem: no sound! Yes, I've check to be sure the AVR is really set to TV/Sat.

I've discovered if I turn the AVR off and on, with no change in the AVR input setting, sound emerges! Yet event more strangely, if I put these off/on commands into my script on the MX-900, it doesn't help! Time dealys don't help either.

I'm guessing thsi is an ARC problem. Is this a known issue?

Any other ideas?

TIA

HDMI - Hopeless Decision to Manage Integration.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Try rearranging your macro to this:

TV on
TV input air
AVR on
AVR input sat/cable

With varying delays to allow components to turn on and accept input changes.

OR better yet, stop relying upon ARC. Does the TV have optical or analogue audio outputs? If so, use them...most Samsung LED panels I've seen have an optical output. Relying upon ARC is about as reliable as relying upon HDMI to function 100%...which as you're finding out is never going to happen.
