I've got 3 MX980 remotes and an MSC400. I programmed them when remotes first came out and very satisfied.

I've got two Comcast DVRs that have always been left on but since adding an HDMI Matrix switcher I sometimes want to power them cycle them get handshake in sync. I thought I'd get couple of the video sensors and configure for real on and off.

However a little reading and doc review makes me think you have to create macro in MSC and then execute it via remote. I'd rather not have to update MSC for various reasons so is it possible to do this with remote only. Reason I ask is that If remote macro does not show Sensor as option.

Programming is done in the msc400.   You can creat macros that trigger from a voltage/video change or trigger them from the mx980.

The video sensor on the MSC-400 has RCA connectors and no HDMI ability. If your matrix switch also has RCA connectors, you may be in luck and in that case; but as Duct Tape says you'll need to program the MSC and trigger from the MX

my guess is that he wanted to plug the video sensors into unused composite or component video outputs on the cable boxes, not into the matrix.

Duct Tape, you are correct about placement of video sensor. My issue is that I did not want to update configuration/programming of MSC because of PC location and no longer own a laptop. I'm borrowing a laptop this weekend to create macro and download.

Thanks

I don't think that will work. We always had to use a 12v wall wart plugged into the switched outlet on the back. All the Motorola cable boxes here still have signal on the composite and green component when off.

yep, i haven't had luck with cable boxes either.  they usually have some type of signal on the analog outputs, even when the box is off.  i have heard of people using a resistor inline on the video sensor to drop the voltage of the signal and making it work that way.

Understand and now I'm gonna need a couple voltage sensors.

Thanks
