I have a MX-5000 that started having very slow page transitions.  Press a page button adn it takes 4 seconds for the page to creep into place.  Once there, the buttons respnose is normal.  Any ideas how to fix?  I tried a factory reset, the factory default transitions behave the same way.  When in the setup screen, changes between option screens work normally FWIW.  When in operating mode, teh transitions crawl.  I tried turning off WiFi in setup, no difference.

Any idea how to fix?  What's that button for in the battery compartment next to the USB port?  It reboots the remote, but pulling the battery will do the same thing, so why put a button there unless it's for something else?

That button is the reset button. Try pushing it. Leave the battery in.

I know, and I already did.  But it must have some other purpose.  Otherwise why add the hardware?  battery in-out appears to do identical thing.

Anyway, don't care about that.  Problem is the slow response on window transitions.  Something is wrong with remote.

What graphics are you using? Format, resolution, size, etc. could be a problem for the remote. Try loading a blank template on the remote and see if you have the same results. It could be a memory issue.

Graphics weren't the problem.  It's running the factory default.  Unless the factory got them wrong <grin>.

For no apparent reason, this AM the remote is working normally.  Page transitions are workign fine.  I'm wondering if that little reset button doesn't do more than reboot it.  Not wanting to experiment but it's as if it was busy processign or doing something.  Today it was finished with whatever that was is my theory.

DOH! spoke too soon.  Rebooted via a batter pull and it's back to slow.  WIll see how long it takes to get back to normal.

The proper way to reset is to use the button.  I read a post from someone at urc saying that it isnt the same as a battery pull.

I've figured out what casues the slow behavior anyway.  If the remote loses power (i.e. via battery pull), then it goes into slow mode for roughly 24 hours.  If I plug the remote to power via it's power jack, then remove battery (so power is nto lost) and reinset battery, behavior remains correct (not slow).  If I pull battery and reinsert, it will do the slow thing for about 24 hours.  With the battery in place, pressing teh reset button also casues the slow behvior for 24 hours.  Once it finishes whatever those events trigger, it's back to apparent normal.

Now, I have to replace the USB port on the remote.  Any of you guys have any contacts where I can get the USB surface moutn PCB part?  I'm a dealer and I tried URC, they were less than no help.  Want $600 to exchange it for the customer.  Damn shame to toss a remote in the when a $1.50 (in qty of 1) part and some solder skills which I have, will fix it.

Maybe you will get lucky and find one on ebay with a broken screen.

URC doesn't stock board level parts. These things come into the country as fully assembled.

Try DigiKey, MCM, Parts Express, etc - someone that sells component parts...

I've got accounts with all of them pretty much.  I tried everybody.  Can't find the part.  They used an odd ball one, maybe a custom part.  Unusual surface mount vertical orientation.  But, I got some in and was able to modify one to work.  Soldered without issue. But doesnt' work :(.  I think the customer toasted the USB chip using a "hold the broken part to the PCB to program" method LOL.  I am almost positive I have the USB port oriented correctly but I dont' have the original receptacle so I don't know.

Can one of you with a MX5000 around look at your's for me?  Remove battery cover.  With the remote pointing up look at the USB programming socket/receptacle.  Is the wide side of the plug on the top or the bottom?  I have the wide side on top, see photo.
