I'm new to this board so any help is appreciated. I bought the MX-900 about 7 months ago and have been using since then with no issues. I recently started to notice a weird thing with some, but not all, of the buttons and it only happens some of the time. For some reason the SEL button and the light button (and possibly some other buttons) stop working. It's as if they're dead and are not sending a signal to the components. But if I press the up or down cursor button first and then immediately press the SEL button (or light button), then they work fine. It's only when I try to press the SEL or light button as the first button (which I often try to do because I have no reason to press the cursor button first). Then, after a period of time, it fixes itself and the SEL and light button work fine. I've read that this remote has button problems, but this does not seem like a normal button degrading issue.

Has anyone experienced this? Any troubleshooting tips are appreciated.

You're 5 months from warranty expiration; use it now. Contact your retailer or installer. Some (us included) will do an advanced replacement so you have zero down time.

Thanks tweeterguy. I bought it online and while the seller has a warranty, he asked me to post the issue on this forum first to see if I could resolve the problem. I don't think he'll issue an advanced replacement though.

Comical.

Well, here's about as far as you should go and then get a warranty fix/replacement. Do a factory reset via Listen/Enter for 5+ seconds then load your program. Problem still there, do a boot loader reset via On/Mute while installing the fourth battery and then load your program. Problem still there, warranty time. Good luck.

Thanks. In the meantime, I played around some more with the remote to see if I could find the specific buttons at issue. Channel buttons 1 and 7, channel up, sel, skip forward, and the light switch all don't work. A very random set of buttons. When I push those buttons there is no response by my tuner or cable box. Other buttons work fine, but the problem seems worse now (more buttons and even less responsive) than earlier this evening when I first posted.

Never seen one fail in 7 months. More like years. Used piece?
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Seller claims it's new and I have no reason to dispute it. It came in what appeared to be original packaging. I bought it here - [Link: tinyurl.com]

That site makes me laugh on so many levels.

"Free 3 year replacement warranty"

If so, use it.

"Free tech support"

Goto remotecentral.com and ask your tech support question there?

"Will last 10 years and not break like a Harmony"

Oops! 10 years, 7 months, what's the difference lol

"box may be removed to reduce shipping costs"

Ummm...that's not a red flag at all :-)

I thought every seller on Ebay told the truth? Isn't it the most reliable place to buy electronics?

Haha...I think from now on when a client calls in with an issue with their system I will just refer them to the AVS forum. I know I'll sleep better at night :-)

To the OP, the extent of your free third party support has been outlined in Post 4 for you. That's about all you can do, and all we would do before sending back to URC, best of luck.
