Hi,

I am presently using MX-3000 to control my home theater set-up, but as it is old and becoming less reliable I am thinking of purchasing an MX-3000 instead. I particularly like the extra hard buttons!

Before I spend a lot of money, I have a few questions, which hopefully the clever people here at RC can help me with:

1. If I purchase it over the internet, probably from a non-authorised dealer, will I have problems getting the necessary software to program it?
2. Since I am able to program my MX-3000 (and Prontos), I should be able to learn to program the MX-6000 too, right?
3. Can I continue to use my MRF-250, or will I need to get an MRF-260 for RF control?
4. The MX-6000 sends IR and learns IR too, right?

1. You will have problems getting the programming software which is called CCP. Anyone that comes on here asking for software is automatically a loser, should call a "pro", thief, etc.

2. Yes, you can learn to program the MX-6000 too. It's not voodoo, there are no secrets. All of the documentation for CCP and the MX-6000 are included as pdf files in the CCP suite.

3. You need to get a MRF-260 or MRF-350 for RF>IR because the MX-6000 uses URC's narrowband RF.

4. Yes

I think RAID has an enema kit to help rid you of that bug you have up your ass.

As a URC dealer I'm allowed to give a copy of the software to my customers that purchase the remote from me. I'm NOT allowed to just give it to anyone that wants it.

Yes there are some that ridicule those looking for the software. If you're going to make this kind of a purchase I would recommend looking for an authorized dealer so you'll have an actual warranty and someone to help you with it. I've had customers buy online and get used remotes, missing parts and end up stuck with a nice shiny doorstop.

Anyway around that problem? I am happy to buy from an authorised dealer, but living in Norway it must be someone who is willing to sell a unit, not an installation.

Can I use my existing IR emitters (from the MRF 250) with an MRF 350?

No. Not unless you want to replace the ends or add an adaptor; they are a different size, 1mm too small. The new MRF-350 ships with 6 IR emitters.

If I were you I'd find someone in Europe. At least that way you'll get a unit with proper power supply. Send URC an email asking for info on their European dealers/distributors .
