I have been using/programming a 810 for years with no problems, unlike most I love it. A friend of mine for a mx-850, MRF-350, & RFX-250 to use in the bedroom. The components are pretty basic:
TV - Vizio E472VLE
SAT - DirecTv HR-22-100
DVD - Philips DVP3960
VCR - Panasonic

I problem is I am use to the two distinct areas of MX-810: Devices & Activities.

The 850 doesn't make since to me because it only appears to have "Main" which shows the devices. Then when you press a device it shows the control of those devices.

How does one setup - press a button - select TV - turn on TV - switch to HDMI port 1 - select SAT - turn on SAT - ect.

I have read the manual but I can't get my head wrapped around the 850 versus the 810.

Any help or setup file I can play around with to try to learn this remote?

Thanks

To set up an button as you ask just click on the button, click on macro, then the red record button, then just pick each action.

Thanks for reply - But is the Main screen a "device" screen or as "Activities" screen?

Does pressing DVD on main screen just switch the remote into being a DVD remote or does it turn on TV. switch to that input, turn on DVD, and switch to DVD remote?

All depends how you program it.

There is a lot more freedom with the 850.

I have mine set up so that Main brings up a list of devices, and hitting a button takes you to a device menu, so press DVD under main and you get the DVD section of the remote.

FAV brings up the same list of devices but each is an activity button, so hitting DVD turns the amp, tv and DVD on, sets the TV to DVD input and the amp to dvd sound.

But its up to you !!

the mx850 doesn't build macros automatically like the mx810 does.  you need to add commands to each button on the main page.

a typical macro to watch a dvd might look like:

TV power on
AV receiver power on
DVD power on
10 second delay
TV Input 1
AV receiver DVD input
DVD play
Jump to DVD page

you could also insert a jump to a please wait page before jumping into the device page.

Don't forget about my all time favorite feature of the MX-850 (and 700). Pressing and holding Main while selecting an activity macro takes you directly to that device page. This can also be accomplished via press/hold macro on other versions but I like that little hidden out of the box functionality on this remote.
