Running Parallels on a Macbook Pro. Programming my first MX-780 and having trouble connecting to the remote. Tech Support seems to think it's the virtual machine, but I don't know. I can check when I get back to the office to a PC, but not able to here. Anyone have a problem with connecting to a MX780 with a Macbook Pro running Parallels?

Boot into Windows via Bootcamp and it will work.

That's what he said. I don't have bootcamp on this one. Have to do that tonight.

First remote company to natively support MAC will get all of my remote business on principal alone.

Sorry but just had to. If you look at it from the company's point of view they'd have to re-write the software for 3-5% of the market. Just not worth it.

To followup, I installed windows via bootcamp instead of parallels and it worked perfectly. Oh well, guess I just won't be selling the 780. Too bad, because it's an excellent remote. Not running bootcamp to be able to program just 1 remote.

Why? I mean how hard is it to boot directly into windows on a job you know you have a 780 with?

Your asking this question to the same guy that dumped a whole line because one or two website were illegally selling a protected line, and that manufacturer sought out to eliminate the illegal sales. Seems to just be an inflexible fella. If he wants to not sell certain product, it's his prerogative.

Just double checked again by the way. Plugged my 780 into the Macbook. Already had Parallels open. Opened CCP. Clicked to upload from the remote. As it always does, it says failed. This happens with 90% of the USB devices I plug in. I click on the Parallels menu on the top, select Devices -> USB -> URCHID #2 and it works great. This works everytime, without fail.

But that's way too much work!! Probably took you all of 10 seconds and who has that kind of time.

I want to know who looks at all the programming software they have to run, sees it's 95% Windows, buys a MAC and then complains about the software! Don't get me wrong, I think the Macbooks are awesome machines but when all my software is Windows I just don't see the reason to buy one.

Agreed. I have an old Acer laptop running Windows XP that I use as my programming machine. I do have the Macbook at home though, and the reason I know the remote works on Parallels.

Well, golden didn't have that advice when I posted this originally, just that it worked for him. I spoke with URC tech support twice. Both times their stance was it wouldn't work. In parallels, and when I plugged it in, nothing showed up in device manager at all. It was not listed as an hid device under parallels usb or in device manager. Normally when I plug something in, it gives me a choice of connecting it to either Mac or Windows 7. No such luck with the 780.

I appreciate the personal condescension, however. Glad to know how I choose to run my own business is such a large source of concern and entertainment for you. I'll try to check with you two next time I decide to upgrade my hardware so I can make the choice you'd prefer instead of what's right for me.

For me, I can run parallels without issue for every remote/software I've ever encountered. EXCEPT the 780. I prefer the hardware IMMENSELY. My wife is a professional photographer and we run Adobe software for Mac. The desktops at home are mac (albeit with bootcamp) and her laptops are mac. I'm not acquiring a windows machine just because a few manufacturers decide their going to bury their heads in the sand.

The penetration of mac in the custom a/v world is far more than 5%. When I go to Crestron trainings in Atlanta, Macs are the majority.
