I tend to keep some of my components on all of the time
and only turn off the plasma monitor and the audio. I
leave all of the others on or in standby.
I presume you did not create a button for Off or On that
I could use in my design. I like the blue buttons you
designed, but not sure how I can create the matching circular
on/off buttons. I guess I could adopt one of your buttons
with my own text.
Any tips for creating my own backgrounds? I like your
buttons, but I might want to create or modify the backgrounds.
There are Power On and Power Off icons in the Gravity gallery, but I don't think I ever created the simple red and green "on" and "off" icons. The icons I created are not labeled—you can name them anything you want.
As for creating your own backgrounds for the Gravity template, my best tip is, "don't." I created Gravity with a specific color scheme, and I think it would be hard to find backgrounds that would look right with the button colors I created. I created Gravity for my personal use, and it never really occurred to me that this many people would end up wanting it. I figured the stark color scheme was probably too much for any kind of mass appeal.
(As a side note, Gravity originally was meant to be ONLY shades of red. The color red does not cause your night vision to re-adjust, so I wanted to create a template that you could use without stressing your eyes. Astronomers use red lighting to read their charts at night for this very reason. However, the blue back lighting of the buttons on the MX-3000 actually created
more eye strain when the screen was only shades of red, so I abandoned the "red only" concept.)
The ability to easily change backgrounds was the point behind the Alpha template, which is what eventually became of Gravity. A quick comparison of the two templates reveals their common roots. However, the big difference is that Alpha belongs to URC, while Gravity belongs to me. Unfortunately, I've been far too busy with my job at URC to devote any time to updating Gravity.
