Everytime I boot up my MX3000 editor software, I see a picture of a MX3000 with some great looking graphics. Can these be found anywhere?

Don't have it. I'm not sure why URC just doesn't make these available for everyone. Oh well.... SJ

Gravity actually started out as my personal template for my own use. During the time I was using it, I gave Bracken Baker the right to distribute it on www.tripleBsoftware.com. I created a skin for DMX, as well as several other color variations of the DMX skin.

Shortly after that, URC contracted Bracken to do some work for us, so he was never able to get the skin on his site. However, he still has the right to do so, even though the only other place you can get the RCC and gallery is URCcontrolRoom.com.

I don't personally distribute it because the file is large and I don't want the influx of "I'd like a copy" emails. But if you can talk Bracken into posting it, I'm delighted for people to use it.

A word of warning: the file is still set up pretty much as my personal file. I did some things to make it easier to edit, but it's nowhere near as easy to use as Alpha, which was borne from the ideas I got while making Gravity.

Thanks,
Dale

Dale, does URC have any plans to offer additional templates on their website?

Since they show this template on the startup of the software, it really makes sense (well, at least to me :)) to include this. What is the reasoning for not including it for customers of the MX3000 (without special websites)? Thanks. SJ

Honestly, the main reason Gravity is not widely distributed is that it is set up to control my home theater, instead of being set up as a fully-configurable template. You can certainly configure it, but there's a lot of superfluous stuff in there that makes using it somewhat of a hassle.

I do like the looks of the tempalte still, but in developing Alpha, I've moved on to using that template at home, and haven't really looked at Gravity in about a year.

As we develop new templates, we'll likely post them on URC Control Room, as we did with Alpha. Recently we've spent a lot of time improving the usability of that template, and in adding additional button styles and backgrounds to it. Of course, it's not the be-all, end-all touchscreen template, but it was carefully designed to make it easier for custom installers to give their clients the look and feel they want.

I originally developed the concept for Alpha off the clock, and I have another project in the works that would also only be presented to the rest of URC when I feel like it's something worth seeing. The new UI is promising, but I'm trying to work out some issues with making is at least as easy to work with as Alpha.

Thanks,
Dale

Great! Thank you so much.

Still wish URC would just update our software with the new graphics. They did this once before..... (or give all registered customers access to a website). Seems like they could add an option to access the site from the software if it was "update enabled". SJ

Well again... Gravity was never really meant for widespread distribution. It's not set up like a real, shipping template. It's set up like a user's personal file, which is what it is. Yeah, I made close to 120 source icons for it, but those were the result of some earlier work I was already doing.

Ha! I was using a highly customized version of Gravity, and I just made the mistake of showing Alpha to my wife. Now I have to get all my stuff moved over to the new template!

Hopefully I'll have it done before Beta comes out. ;-)

Heh...

Well, the name Alpha actually refers to the transparency layer, or "alpha channel," in the PNG graphics used for most of the images in the template. That's what makes the template so fast to customize: All you have to do is replace the background images and suddenly the template is totally customized to your tastes. Or if you like red buttons instead of clear buttons, you can swap those out in and instant too.

And if you really have time for customizing, you can even program the backgrounds to swap out using a variable, allowing His and Hers background images that you can swap out live on the remote.
