I'm looking at switching over to URC from RTI. Our main reason is because of the Total Control stuff coming. But I'd like to know how you are using the KP4000 in systems now. What sub systems are you controlling (multi-channel amps? tuners? other wh systems (Niles, Nuvo?). How are you controlling the volume, any two way info. etc. I've taken the ip courses/ tests already, but I'm going to do the specific one to the KP4000 right now to see what I may get from it. I appreciate any feedback you may have either way. Thanks!!!

I am using the KP-4000 mostly in kitchen applications where multi room music is being utilized. My customers enjoy having the weather, news, etc when they are in the kitchen (where they typically are the most).
However, with the addition of the HAI and RadioRa2 modules, I expect to be doing a lot more lighting, security & surveillance, and hvac control. A 3-4 keypad system throughout the house (2 at each entrance location), 1 in master bedroom and a common location would be the norm. That is how I plan to write them in to the next few jobs in the least.
Just had a customer ask for it to be mounted into a desk/coffee table, so we will see where that goes....
Also as a sidenote of advice if you don't mind me saying, as an RTI dealer and a direct URC dealer if I were you I would wait it out until the end of this year before making a decision on a complete cutover. Both systems may have functionality and or features that you may want to have. As it stands, I don't see URC doing anything like virtual panel / iphone/ipad interaction, waterproof controllers, or the ability to co-mingle the entire product line. They are both completely different systems and should be treated as such.

Took over a job from another company, Client didnt want to step up to crestron since he had already bought the stuff. 3 Kp 4000's, 1 mx 6000, 2 mx 980's and 25 universal light dimmers! Yes 25! All controled with the 6000, and the 4000's, also 4 TV's and 5 sources through a matrix switch, AND a Proficeint M6 in the mixed, all controlled thru the 4000's. I think its pushing the Universal stuff to the edge, mainly the lighting, but it works and client is happy. Found out today that they are moving in 6 months, but we will be doing their new house. Pushing for Crestron

Hello, I am currently using three KP4000 with the Onkyo 1008 and I must say that I am hating it. CCP has been more than a little challenging and the tech people at URC seem to know less than I do. For three days the favorite catch phase on URC is "it should work!"
I even sent over the file and once again "looks good to me!" then when I ask a question "you really need to train yourself online"
I am just about to send everything back and strap the project with URC. This is not a rant about URC but just my encounter with the KP and URC.
Tonight will be my final night of programming before I remove everything Monday.

CCP I jumped into but of course have done trainings. If the URC techs did not understand more than me, there is a problem.
Being stable is not the problem, it is that URC stated three KP4000 could do two way and there was no support to back it up.
I like keypads and without any feedback it is great.
