I'm programing another MX-880 and I'm having a fit with powering off an xbox.

On the Xbox device page 2 there is a power off button (AUX.408.Power Off). It works just fine. No problems at all.

I have "power on" (AUX.408.Power On) in an activity macro. I works just fine. No problems.

These power on/off discretes work fine as single push buttons or testing them from the ir database.

I try to insert (aux.408.power off) in the "system off" macro and it will not work. I have taken it straight from the IR database. I have copied and pasted it from the Xbox device page 2. I have added delay, both before and after it. I have changed the repeat value. I have deleted the whole macro and started over from scratch.... Nothing. I can't get it to work in the macro.

Any ideas?

You should alias the IR command into your macro. No need to have the same IR command in more than one place.

My assumption is that once you copied the power macro you now have it tied to that activity which in CCP (or MX-880 Editor) is still considered a "device". If you are using a RF extender and you've mapped the XBox to transmit IR from Port 1, but you've copied (not aliased) the IR command to Play XBox then the copied IR is now routed through what you have set up for that activity. In the extender settings you would need to make sure that the XBox device and the Play XBox activity are both mapped to transmit IR the same way. If you alias the command then the IR is transmitted per the original device's setup.

bryansj nailed it. I learned this the hard way as well. If you need extra commands for the database, drag the to a button on the remote and THEN alias to them if using an extender.

I aliased it and got it half a$$ working.... I've got something wrong somewhere.
Sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't. Sounds like I need to add some delays.

Well, seeing how I'm an audio engineer and not a programer... (I just do this for knowledge of system design and some tinkering.)

Seeing how the programer that does my systems is our of town for a few weeks, I'm kinda left holding the bag on this one. I'm sure there is a much more elegant way of programing than my style (or lack there of).

Let me know if anyone is willing to look over the .ccp via email and ridicule me.... I mean give me some pointers. I'm sure you need a good laugh today. ;)

Don't knock it, everything works solid except for the xbox hiccup.

So are you using a RF extender to control the XBox or IR directly from the 880? IR emitter placement can be tricky on the old style 360s.

Yep, RF extender. I have already fought with emitter placement on the xbox. This is a 360 slim and the IR sensor is inside the sync button. How the heck is that suppose to be functional? What a pain in the butt. I've already had to crank up the output on the base station.

I'm really considering taking it apart and embedding the emitter. I'll take some pictures and post if I decide to go that route. I have seen it done yet but, I'm willing to give it try if I get some time.

Bryansj, you got the programing correct. I just need to back up and redo a few things to simplify everything. Thank you.

I had a similar problem with an x-box 360 elite and msc-400. It was hit and miss with powering on and off. I tried different button repeat settings and increasing the IR output delays etc. Nothing seemed to be reliable.

I eventually repeated the command twice in my macros in the msc-400.
XBOX 360 (MSC400 (Home theatre),p-off)
XBOX 360 (MSC400 (Home theatre),p-off)

I do the same for turning it on.

It's the only component in my system that I need to do this work around.

I'm sure there must be a better way; but this works every time for my set-up??

I feel your pain krazyk.

I've got the programing issues worked out via IR but, it seems to only be 75% reliable. When I switch over to RF, it all goes to hell. The emitter placement is just not feasible on the 360s. Even when I have it stuck 1/16" beside the switch/ir receiver, I'm overdriving the emitter just to get it to respond. I know that emitter is not going to last very long.

Besides I used a speakercraft emitter... overdriving that thing makes it look like a firetruck parked in the rack.

I'm determined to figure something out.

Ditto. I had to "double tap" the on and off commands for the 360 Elite as well. I think I put .5s between them. But I was also fighting the IR routing 980 bug simultaneously. :)

It did work reliably though.

Glad to hear it's not just me. I thought I was losing my mind...
or maybe I am. ;)

Next thing you know I will be posting that I can't get the PS3 controller to work with the reel to reel. ;)
