Posting this so it might assist others who become as baffled and frustrated as I have about why the URC remote does not appear to be working (although it probably is).

There is a very complex set up here with heaps of remote switching all controlled by a URC Aeros remote. One item installed to assist with this is a 12 channel relay board with sets of relays triggered by a 12volt supply. I use it to control screen up and down, switch video items on & off, ....... Part of the system involves further relays. The 12 CH unit triggers a relay which in turn switches 240V power to an amp. I use this second relay as the advice is not to have more than 5 amps going through any one of the 12 channel board relays. For reliability and safety I avoid having anything near that current going through any of them.

I just set up another relay box to power on another amp and to switch between 2 sets of speakers. The box tested out fine BUT would not appear to work reliably when hooked into the system. The code to switch on the amp would not always achieve its purpose. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not. So why? A number of possibilities were investigated-

1. Poor wire contacts - eliminated with contact cleaner & check of terminal connectors
2. Faulty relay in the 12 CH master relay unit - two other sets of contacts were tried with no improvement.
3. Poor "learning" of codes in the URC remote - no because the remote for the 12 CH board gave exactly the same results
4. Faulty 240V relay - hard to believe as it had tested out properly but a second 240V set up was tried and it behaved the same.
5. Faulty IR detector - yes, after trying out longer delays and other useless options it turned out to be a faulty detector. Fortunately, suspecting this was a problem some time ago I had imported some spares.

Here is the 12 channel remote board referred to above [Link: quasarelectronics.com]

Hope this helps somebody!!

John

EDIT POSTSCRIPT: I had earlier posted a heap of garbage about using longer delays etc. Apologies if that misled anyone but I thought I had it solved earlier then found I had not :-(
