My laptop doesn't have a com port, so I can't use the B&K editor on my MX 700.
I do have a com/USB cable and the computer reads that something is there and can't find any drivers. But the editor only looks for com ports and won't read that the device is connected.
Second Question
The B&K editor is older and when I try to select my Blu-Ray player to find the IR set it doesn't know what a blu-ray player is.
I have a LG BD-570

First up you need to get that driver for your USB converter cable (see my post below). Once you have that driver go into device manager in the PC and it will tell you which COMM port has been allocated.

As for the Blu Ray player, you can learn all the codes. It is a bit of a PIA but I have done it many times. Locate the manual for the MX700 and you will find full instructions there. You might be unlucky and have an item with codes it will not learn - I had this misfortune once, but generally learning works well although sometimes you have to do a quick jab of the original remote to avoid your programmable remote doubling up so that e.g. instead of "2" it sends "22" or even "222". Trial & error + a lot of patience is required but the end result is worthwhile.
