I have an MX-700 I've programmed, works great. Just got an MX-850 and didn't realize I didn't get the software any more.

Anyone have a source for getting the MX-850 software? I have an older copy of the MX-800 editor (1.12.267), anyone know whether it would work? I don't really want to trash the MX-850 while it's still in a returnable state if that becomes necessary.

800/850 software is interchangeable, the only difference is the picture of the remote.

I think it would even work with 700 software, except for the lack of RF settings (probably be left with whatever the file was already configured for).

We've had problems with the new 850's not working with a 700 file. I looks like it works, but doesn't. I love to hear different...

So are you saying that if you open the 700 file in the 850 editor and save it, then download (or upload - whichever it is) to the remote, it won't work right on the 850?

I've done 700,800, & 850 and have only used the 850 editor, ever.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Correct. Called URC and they told me that the newest chipset in the 850 was incompatible. I've upgraded 2 clients from 700's to 850's and had to reprogram from scratch.

Can't see why a chipset change would make a software file incompatible.

Even if for some reason the editor is working with the actual compiled binary file as used by the remote, it should be able to make any necessary conversions when it decompiles it for editing.

I thought the same, especially because it worked in the past. I would love to be proved wrong.

Hello all, I have a MX 850 and have registered my remote with UR and use the MX editor software I downloaded there several years ago. I used to be in the industry and the Dealer who sold me the Remote has gone the way of the dinosaur. I need new IR codes for my Mitsubighi HC 7000, my DVDO edge, my Direct TV HD DVR, and a Toshiba Bluray can anyone help a brother out?

I struck this problem a little while back. A real PIA they altered the hardware so the old software no longer worked. It drove me nuts I could use the software on one 850 but not on the other. Unaware of the hardware change I thought I had purchased a faulty remote so sent it back to URC but of course they pronounced it fine. We had quite an argument but they never did tell me the new 850 I had was different to the older one - I found out here. I eventually got hold of the editor program that worked.

One annoying bug can be that the system will hang and lose communication when learning codes if you accidentally hit the wrong option. This drove me crazy for awhile but I eventually dropped to the fix - the batteries must be removed from the remote so it resets and the PC must be rebooted. After that communication will be normal.

The 850 is a great remote but I've had many hours of frustration at times. The guys who lurk here have been my savior.

Thanks guys

John
