I have been trying to get the USB keyboard emulation working between my MSC-400 and a Dell optiplex 755, running Win7.

I can get my remote setup and programmed correctly using Aux 501 and 502. The MSC is connected to the PC using the rear USB port and it all seems to work correctly for a while.

At some point (usually after a reboot or wake from sleep) the keystrokes no longer seem to work. Any keypress (up arrow, enter, numbers, etc) sent from the MSC will move the mouse cursor down. The longer the button press the further the curser moves. It is always in the same direction.

Since it does work initially I'm pretty sure that the problem is not the MSC-400. I have checked out the Windows settings for Mouse Keys and they are all turned off. I also have another USB keyboard plugged in that always functions normally.

I have given up and am back to using the MCE IR receiver. I'm just perplexed as to what goes wrong.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks

i tried for a bit to get it to work, gave up, then started using serial control with Eventghost.  much more control than the USB keyboard emulator.

I've got a how to tutorial in the URC Controlroom Forum with sample files if you are interested in using serial control.

Yes, I have the exact same problem (amongst other problems). For some reason, the USB keyboard will just stop working but I also have the problem of ghost and duplicate key strokes, etc.

I really like the USB keyboard control though because it's so much faster than IR. (ie. you can hit the arrow up/down several times and it registers each one lightning fast; IR has a very long delay between each button)

I gave up on the USB keyboard as well. The main issue I had was keys getting "stuck". Every once in a while I would hit a button and the key would start rapidly repeating like it would if you held a key down on a regular keyboard. You had to then hit another key to make it stop.

I now use serial control with EventGhost and it works much better. I find it very responsive too. Navigating an OSD works very well and responds to fairly rapid button presses.

Duct Tape

Any chance of posting a tutorial here for us DIY'ers?
I have Eventghost but haven't spent the time figuring out how to implement it with serial control.
Any help would be helpful!

Thanks,
Karl
