Im looking to upgrade my mx-850. Is there any substantial difference between the 900 and 980? What about the 880z?
I will be programming myself, are the 900 and 980 programming instructions similar?
Thanks

There's a huge difference between the 900 and 980. The 900 is a compact black-and-white remote, and the 980 is more advanced with a larger customizable color screen. The 880 is sold as a "direct replacement" to the 900 and can load 900 files. Programming for the 880 is very similar; the 980 allows more freedom.

Make sure you ask for the software from your dealer if you plan to program it yourself, once you pick your model.

There is no comparison b/t the 980 and 900. The 980 is a much more powerful remote. When programmed properly it's very user friendly and easy for anybody to pick up and use. If you can swing it, I say go for it. I actually went from 850's to 980's also. Good luck with the programming, read a bunch of threads here you'll find a ton of useful information.

Thanks for all the feedback. so I think Ive ruled out the 900 since the 880 is the replacement for that, now its just a question of paying the extra $ for the 980 vs 880...

The one main reason I would recommend the MX-980 over the MX-880 is because the MX-980 has a charging cradle. The MX-880 just has an AC adapter that plugs directly into the 880. I think the 980 cradle is a far more elegant and simple solution than a wire going directly into the remote.
Thank you, Damon
